Skinnyski.com High School Rankings - Week 1

December 8, 2014

Commentary:

The racing results started rolling in last week with the first meets of the season.  Some highlights from the past week:  Sarah Bezdicek, Osseo, came out of the gates smoking!  Bezdicek not only crushed the NWSC girls field by over 2:30 in the 5K skate race, she came within seconds of beating all guys as well!  Nicole Schneider, Wayzata, is showing some good off-season training, bringing her Wayzata club from behind to take a relay victory last week and then racing again on Monday to fly ahead of the girls field in a 5K skate.  In the other half of the NWSC conference, the Armstrong girls made their statement for a top ranking, sweeping the first seven places in their opening race. Home of the Vasaloppet, Mora high school teams appear to be moving up as they scored well in their season opener in St. Cloud. There were some great performances by some young faces as well:  Freshman Anders Sonnesyn, Wayzata, took his first conference victory; sophmore Vasek Cervenka, Grand Rapids, nearly upset Ely's Seth Prigge - a couple of names to key an eye on this season, for sure.
Other notes:  Two of Wayzata's top skiers, Anna French and Michaela Keller-Miller completed their cross-country running season with competition at the Nike Cross Nationals last weekend in Portland, OR.  Expect them to start moving up as they get their skiing legs going later this month.

Up next, more teams get into action with races nearly every day this week (and weekend) ...
