State of MN HS Skiing Round Table Update

Update: State of MN HS Skiing round table meeting. Where are we as a sport, where are we heading? How do we work alongside our local clubs that train our kids during the of-season (and sometimes in-season?) Training year round? How to deal with the Elite Athlete? Snow making, State Meet Venue changes, other topics?

It is looking like the meeting will take place at EPHS on Sunday Oct. 16 with a tentative time from 5-7 or 8. If you would like to sit in on the meeting, or are outside the metro area and want to participate via Skype, please let me know. I am taking topic ideas from the general group as I form the agenda for this important meeting. Local clubs have already confirmed their attendance, we just need to make sure we have good representation from the coaches group. I am also in the process of bringing in a moderator to keep us on topic, and to bring along soft boxing gloves in case it gets out of hand (ha,ha)

Reminder: On Oct. 29, we will have the opportunity to take our sport to another level in terms of what type of skiers are we producing, and how can we make our programs even more enjoyable for a wider variety of athlete. By this I mean, we get to vote on the new State Meet Proposal that would include not only a Team Sprint Relay, but a 1.5 day State Meet. If you haven't read up on the proposal, you need to do that. It was included in an email from me this past Monday. It was also posted on Skinnyski the past Wednesday. Read up on it, call the section coach contact listed, and lets all get on board for the sake of our student athletes and our sport. I need to emphasize that only head coaches that are CURRENT Association Members will be allowed to cast a vote. Please take care of this next week!

It seems like we have been in the middle of a political season for a couple of years, and soon we will be voting in several elections in November. Like we have all been taught, 'if you want to have a say in the direction of ......, then get out and vote'. We need great attendance at our fall meeting in Mora on Oct. 29, and we need Head Coaches (and asst. coaches) to get their Association Membership up to date so you can vote.

Enjoy the weekend,
