Message from the Birkie Crew

To the Birkie Community,

It’s hard to believe that Birkie events were merely a month ago.  So much in the world has changed since mid-February.  We have been thoughtfully monitoring the global situation and while there are no Birkie events slated for several months, our primary focus is – and will continue to be – the health and safety of our team and the greater Birkie community.
For those of us who live an active Birkie lifestyle, staying inside can be especially challenging.  We all know that exercise and outdoor activity are good ways to stay healthy and boost our immune systems, but to keep each other safe we must practice social distancing. How can we navigate this challenge?  In support of the Birkie community, the Birkie team is gathering insightful and inspiring resources to help us all maintain a healthy, active lifestyle during this time of social distancing.  Watch for this resource to be shared shortly.

During these times of uncertainty, the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation (ABSF) remains committed to providing inspiring opportunities to promote a healthy, active lifestyle and wellness events for all.  We’ve learned that planning for the future and a return to normalcy is important.  In the spirit of a hopeful tomorrow and with the encouragement of many who embraced various Birkie opportunities in the past, we’ll be moving forward with some of the spring traditions we began in 2019.  Watch for details in the coming days.

As this situation is evolving rapidly, we want to make you aware of some of the precautions the ABSF has taken.

  • The Birkie Trail remains open and, if you are feeling well, we encourage you to get outside, get some exercise, all while following social distancing guidelines. Whether you’re running on a local trail or exercising in your backyard, we can all benefit from a little fresh air.  Please be aware that key Birkie Trail trailhead gathering buildings have been closed until further notice
  • The Birkie Store and the Tony Wise Museum of the American Birkebeiner have been closed until further notice. The online Birkie Store is open and available.

If you have questions, email or call us at 715-634-5025.

From our global partners to our next-door neighbors, we’re all in this together, even if our togetherness needs to be expressed from a safe social distance.  Be well, stay safe, and we look forward to seeing you in the north woods when the time is right.
