Minnesota High School Nordic Skiing Rankings - Round 4

February 18, 2021

A bit overdue, we take a new look at most of the rankings.

Commentary

On the girls side, we once again were caught missing some talented skiers that somehow flew under our radar.   In particular, Ella Bakken of Eden Prairie has been taking names with some strong performances in the Lake conference races. We also missed a couple of eighth grade stars who are on the cusp list this round: Della Bettendorf, Proctor, and Inga Wing, SPA.  Jordan Parent, Forest Lake, has been putting in some impressive results, driven mostly by competition within their own team, and earns the second place ranking.

No major changes within the boys rankings.

The team rankings do get a shakeup as Duluth East makes a charge into the field.  There has been very little head-to-head with rival Ely, and it will be interesting to see how these two teams sort out at sections.  Forest Lake boys continue to improve, perhaps edging closer to making a challenge for number one.  Maple Grove boys get some respect as they've been racing a top quad most of the season.

After getting the announcement of a State Meet about 10 days ago, the Minnesota coaches association has offered up another format that would provide for standard section selection criteria while pushing the State Meet into a two-day format, with boys and girls competing on separate days.  Expect a decision on a final format by early next week.

Junior Nationals racing this weekend in the Twin Cities should pit many of the state's best juniors in freestyle format.   And then sections are just over a week after that.    We hope to crank out another round of rankings in between.
