Adult Races for Snekkevik Cancelled

If you have been following the Wausau Nordic Facebook page or website, you probably are aware of the challenges we've had getting Nine Mile up to decent skiable standards. The snow we got before Christmas was seen as positive and it was. Unfortunately, it also had rain and ice which caused a great deal of damage at Nine Mile. The Club and County personnel have been working hard to clean up the trails and get them in a skiable condition, however, we were than hit with unusually warm temps between Christmas and New Year's which caused us to lose a fair amount of snow base. This exposed a lot more downed debris. While we still have snow there, but it is so contaminated with debris from the downed trees and branches that it will now require another significant snowfall to make the trails skiable for races.

So, with all that said, we are going to cancel the adult races for the Snekkevik. The High School and Middle School races will be held at Tribute Gof Course on Wausau's east side. We only have 3K of trail there and to run a decent adult race would be difficult and probably not a good experience for you. There are other places you can go and have a much better ski and workout

For your registration fees, let me know how you would like us to handle this. The three options are:

  • Refund of your race fee less any processing fees.
  • Defer your registration to next year.
  • Consider your race fees a donation to the club in support of our youth ski programs.

You can just email me your preference.

We are disappointed in how things developed for us at Nine Mile and wish it could be better. But, this is part of the sport. Thanks for your understanding and hope you can join us next year.

Just as a side note, the Badger State Games will be in three weeks. If we do not get sufficient snow in the next two weeks, we will be forced to cancel that event as well.
