Midwest Ski-Orienteering Opportunities

Ski-Orienteering is a very popular Nordic Skiing sport in Europe and is growing in popularity here in North America. Ski-Orienteering combines all of the technique and challenge of Nordic skiing with the added challenge of map navigation to find checkpoints through a venue as quickly as possible.

Two Ski-Orienteering events are scheduled this winter in Minnesota that offer a great opportunity to try the sport, regardless of previous orienteering experience. Consider registering for either or both of these Ski-O events.

Saturday, January 31, 2026 - Minneapolis

In partnership with the Loppet Winter Festival, the Minnesota Orienteering Club (MNOC.org) presents this traditional ski-o event that will take place at Theodore Wirth Park.

Saturday, February 28, 2026 - Duluth

In partnership with the Duluth Cross Country Ski Club (DXC), the Minnesota Orienteering Club will host a Ski-O in Duluth, MN. This event will be held at the Spirit Mountain Upper Nordic Trails.

For more information and to register, visit the MNOC Events Ski-O page.

US Ski Orienteering Team Update and Opportunity

On a national level, Orienteering USA and the US Ski Orienteering Team is working to promote the sport in the US with a goal of having two American athletes in the top 10 at the World Ski Orienteering Championships by 2033. If you are a coach, leader, or athlete on a nordic ski team or club, you are encouraged to learn more about ski-orienteering opportunities that may even take some of our local skiers to national and international competitions. Carl Fey, the US Ski-O team coach is offering an excellent opportunity to learn more at a virtual training and information session scheduled for Sunday, January 18 at 2:00 pm (CST).
