We skied Pike Island this morning. The trails are pretty much trashed. We chose to ski under the power lines and had good, dry snow, we just had to make our own tracks.

I think the conditions are even better than they were on Wednesday. The trail is freshly groomed. You can tell there's some ice under the snow but right now it's spectacular. It safe to assume Saturday will be perfect skiing.

Good conditions all around Pike Island. To and from Island the tracks are washed out. Surprising little trail liter. More deer were on the Island than people.

The course is groomed and in good shape, though there is a surprising amount of tree debris given the recent snow. And the only icy section is on the south west part of the island, parallel to the Mendota bridge. The skiing is great. The spring calls from the birds are a good reminder that we probably don't have many great days left.

I skied in from Minnehaha Park and found some pristine double track on the east end of Pike Island. The groomer was out working while I was there. Some of the track base goes nearly all the way to the icy base but still very skiable! Nice job groomers! Noted tons of bird noise out there!

Skied the Pike Island loop in the evening after the storm had mostly moved out of the metro area. The trails had not been groomed but the several inches of fresh snow covered the trails nicely with only a few areas with thinner coverage due to the wind. Should be in excellent condition once the trails get a pass by the groomers.

The high winds today caused a lot of debris to cover the trails, primarily the Minnesota River side of Pike Island. There were also downed trees laying clean across the path. I could not get any sort of significant glide because of it. The tracks were still intact, but between the debris and presence of walkers ignoring the signage, I don't think they will be there for long unless we get one more significant snowfall. The one saving grace was a bald eagle sighting. Always a treat on Pike Island.

Did a lap around Pike Island and it was really nice. Aside a few leaves and branches the double trails, classic only, were in pretty decent form.

Had a quick morning ski before work down from Minnehaha Park down around Pike island and found great conditions for the snow we have. The multi use has a bit more ice in the tracks but my ancient Swix blue extra was adequate today. Nice job groomers!

The Pike Island loop was great today after an overnight snowfall. The feeder trail from the visitor's center was a mess, but Pike proper was meticulously groomed and a delight to use. Watch out for deer feces, but there was little debris. I saw the grooming machine at work on the nearby Fort Snelling trails but I didn't ski those. If you've been thinking about Fort Snelling, now's the time. It may never be this good again until the fall.
