New Reports Report Requests

Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Tuesday some grooming was done and it skied really well but the conditions are going to be variable day to day. We still have plenty of snow on the trails and if you can time it right you will have a good time but it may only last a few hours any day. We are not setting classic tracks so skating is best or classic without good tracks (the tracks in the photo are old). The photo is from Tuesday afternoon which was good skiing.

Decent coverage. Beautiful weather. A bit slushy with a minimal track but the skin/waxless skis worked well. Many thanks to Mt Ashwabay Nordic for the new improved trails and grooming this year!

It’s Spring but we have 2-3 inches of new snow and a great weekend on tap. Conditions are excellent. Friday Beginners Loop, Abbey Road, Anchor, Seagull, Northern Lights, Roller Coaster, and Sugar Bush Classic were groomed and tracked.

Three inches of lake effect snow groomed into a corn snow base. Great spring skiing for this weekend. Thank you groomers. Keep your distance.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
After several days of warm weather and some rain the groomers were able to resurrect the trails back into decent skiing for the weekend. They set tracks and groomed the skate on Abbey Road, Anchor, Seagull, and Northern Lights. Classic tracks were set on Sugar Bush and Oppedahl’s. Enjoy the skiing!
The photo is from a test earlier in the day on Friday on Anchor, classic tracks are excellent in some sections and not quite so good in others but skiable in general.

Some of the best skiing this year, get out early before the warm up. Time to move next stage and think about a bully.

Absolutely fabulous! The trails snapped back to excellent condition with the new snow. Just about everything got groomed this morning except for Deer Path and Black Bear.

Grooming

Tuesday morning the classic tracks were reset on Seagull classic uphill connector, Oppedahl’s, Skid Road, Jolly, and the lolly pop section of Sugar Bush. The skate lanes were groomed on Anchor, Seagull, Northern Lights, Abbey Road, Switch Back, Anchor Power line Connector, Seagull skate uphill connector, Power Line, and Roller Coaster. The skate lane on Jolly was groomed in the afternoon. The skating is fast with a thin soft surface, the classic track experience is mixed, the sections protected from the sun and away from the evergreens fared the best with some great tracks, others sections fall short of our standards. Some new snow will help. All the trails ski very fast right now, go fast but be careful. The picture is from Switch Back you can see the track is well shaped but very firm. I would not describe it as glazed but it is frozen firm.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Monday the following grooming was done: set new classic tracks on Raven, Deer Path, Black Bear, Sugar Bush, Abbey Road, Northern Lights, Seagull, Switch Back, Power Line, and Roller Coaster. The tracks came out quite well considering the warm weekend, I would say 70% came out perfectly with the rest awaiting the next grooming. The skate lanes will be combed again after the temps chill down, but looked pretty good today. The photo is from Abbey Road.

Another gorgeous day of spring skiing in February, might as well embrace and enjoy it. This morning the following was done: combed the skate lanes on Beginners Loop, Abbey Road, Anchor, Switch Back, Seagull, Northern Lights, Power line, Anchor/Powerline connector, and Roller Coaster. I think the skating will be great this morning. The Classic tracks still look well defined but must be glazed from the warmth and bright sun yesterday. Unfortunately there is not much we can do to improve the classic tracks until the temperature profile becomes more favorable.
