Trail Reports

2019-2020 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 16    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

The trails were fast and groomed. Even the un-groomed trails were good as skiing at 2 pm in the afternoon had allowed the sun to soften them up a bit.

Grooming on Friday night produced a great morning on skiing on Saturday. Skate only, and you want to have a stiffer ski, but man was it fun! It's still winter in the Blue Hills. It should be great on Sunday morning as well. A great place to practice Social Distancing!

Good news for those of us that aren’t quite ready to put away the skis! The Blue Hill trails are flat with sufficient base to continue skiing for a while. Last nights dusting of snow provided a little extra edge control in the shaded areas. I skied the East Side core and the trail is in good to excellent condition. There is still a skiable classic track throughout. I started a little late to “hit the window”. By the time I finished at 12:30 it was pretty slow going. But not complaining. Well worth the drive from CF.

Shockingly good conditions. Awesome groomers are surely why. Freshly groomed this morning. Fast conditions but not icy. A bit of debris but not too bad. I had my rock skis with me but no need, used my best ones. Skied 12 miles and all the same. Skate lanes all open. Strider slots maybe tolerable. Unbelievable.

The Blue Hills Trail base is holding up well. The skate deck is mostly smooth, and there's a shallow (functional) remnant of the classic track that was set last week. Pretty as a picture. Great skiing conditions this morning (Friday), either taking advantage of the freshly groomed skate lane on the East Side (the map image shows the grooming highlighted in orange) -- or enjoying the surprise 1/2" coating of fresh sugary snow that resulted from the blustery weather the afternoon of March 5th. If you have a chance to ski Saturday, try to hit it early. It looks like things will start to get sticky around 9:30 a.m.

Skated Excelsior Rd, plenty of snow and well groomed, tracks looked good. Snow was getting sticky by noon, should have been here earlier.

Wonderful conditions. The head groomer worked the evenings of Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday which yielded some of the finest grooming of the winter. Firm trails, wide flat skate lane with corduroy that was often seamless across the skate deck, and a solid classic track with great pole plants.

The Blue Hills east side has a hard base with a scratched up surface that has good edge control and is fast. The classics looked good and were also fast. Fun double poling. It was a lot of fun skiing there today. The groomers have done a very good job to give us these conditions.

You do not find better conditions. The trails were well groomed. The conditions were excellent with a temperature of 16 degrees. At 10:30 I was making first tracks on many of the trails. Too bad more people do not take Martin Luther King Jr day off!

Great conditions. Excelsior Rd on the west side and the Fire Lane Rd on the east side were especially well groomed. I hopped in the tracks occasionally and they were great. If you enjoy home made caramel corn make sure you stop in the warming house. I left a little just for you.
