Trail Reports

2019-2020 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 57    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Wednesday, March 4, 2020
Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
It hasn't been groomed, but it was good spring skiing yesterday and today. Tracks are shallow and a mix of soft and firm. Skate deck looked good. No bare spots and in most spots still a few inches of snow.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
No new grooming. The skating deck this afternoon was hard and smooth in most places. No cord left except for some on the north side of "Flyway." The first 200m of the trails are ash-covered and slow. Where there are classic tracks they are glazed with stretches of leaves, though in some areas the leaves have melted down below the surface of the track and those stretches are fun.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
The "Stadium" trail leading away from the chalet is closed due to the logging for the upcoming skills area. The trail eastward from the chalet is the only access to the trails. It looks like the trails were scuffed up yesterday and by this morning the deck is hard to very hard almost everywhere. Some cord remains but mostly the deck is boiler plate. The first 200 meters of the trail has a dusting of ash from the burning brush piles, but the smell of wood smoke is kind of nice. Classic tracks are intact on all trails but they are glazed, hard, with leaves, but with occasional short sections of fun double poling.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The groomer made one pass around most of the trails, scruffing up the surface a little. But most of the skating deck is hard-packed and glazed with stretches of oak leaves and pine needles. The classic tracks are hard and glazed throughout with most sections having leaves and litter in the tracks, though there are some sections on "Flyway" and others that are mostly clear of leaves.

Fresh cord on all trails this morning. Excellent skating. Classic tracks are deep and firm. Some stretches of oak leaves in them.

Morning
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
It looks like fresh grooming yesterday. The skating deck is excellent and hasn't been used much since the grooming. Good classic tracks throughout the trails, but leaves are falling in.

Morning
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Fresh grooming this morning. By late morning most of the trails had been groomed for skating and tracks set for classical. The skate deck was firming up. The tracks were firm.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
No new grooming today. The skating deck is well-worn on the trails near the chalet and less so farther out. Not icy, but very firm in the center, with some loss of edge control. The classic tracks are still in poor condition with no new grooming, old wash-outs, and many oak leaves.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
No new grooming today. Last grooming might have been yesterday. The skating deck is well skied-in but not hard or icy. It is littered with oak leaves and pine needles in many sections. The snow was fast this morning. The classic tracks are another story: They have not been set since about Tuesday and they are shallow and filled with oak leaves and pine needles, making for very poor classic skiing.

Fresh corduroy all over this morning. Excellent skating deck (but slow in the cold temps). No classic tracks set and the old tracks that remain are covered in drifted snow. Poor classical conditions.
