Notes

The famous Birkie trail. A great, rolling trail through the woods between Cable and Hayward. There is a short section south at Hwy OO that is lighted. There are snowmaking trails at the Start area.

Great skiing this morning from the Boedecker trailhead. Firm and fast, but just soft enough on top at 34 degrees for good control. Skied the classic side continuously as far as the clear cut except for one 15' section of grass. Getting pretty icy in spots but still very skiable and I even saw two other skiers out there. Both looked pretty happy to be out there, and so were we!

Skied an hour this morning from Boedecker TH. Fast and fun, and good coverage in both directions on both trails, until the clear cut. Still good skiing for awhile if you get there when the air temp is just around freezing. Spring skiing is so nice! Maybe the best skiing of the year.

Still very good skiing at the Birkie Start Area. Recently groomed with just a skiff of snow over fresh corduroy. A full depth, if icy, classic track in most places. The machine made loops are fine skiing and have enough snow to remain so for the immediate future. Once you get off the man made loops things get sketchier. There is still enough snow on the main trails but they are ungroomed since the Fat Bike Birkie and showing some small ice pools in low places. Probably still fine skiing for someone more highly skilled than me. But I'm going to stick to the machine made loops for however long the season lasts.

Skied south on the classic trail from the Boedecker TH. There were a few icy spots and bare spots, but I skied continuously (without portage) as far as the clear cut. There it was a totally different story. I would call it good skiing, a little icy but skiable, fast, and fun. If you hit it at the right time there is still good skiing left.

We skied from the start to Timber Trail on the Classic. We had three portages. Skiing was very good otherwise. The North End trails were in good condition and the Skate trail was in great shape. Had to help change a couple tires on the way back.

Gravel pit to Hwy OO. Took off skis at 21 and 22 k mark on the way out, and a total of 5 times on the way back due to bare ground. Otherwise trail was very nice and very skiable. Preferred closer to gravel pit as the had been less use and there were fewer icy areas. If you want to ski again, go for it!

Skied from The Brook to Gravel Pit Road. Were a few bare spots with ribbons of snow but did not have to take our skis off. 99% of the trail was amazing - almost like crust skiing. I was surprised how good it was.

Fresh snow last night on the Birkie trail. I skied the trailhead and it was beautiful. Snow was wet and slow. But a great day!

Well not sure is if this will help anyone enjoy a Birkie trail ski for a bit, but maybe it will serve as a marker a few days from now. Skated from Mosquito Brook to Hatchery Creek and back. Complete trail snow coverage whole way, no need to ever ski portage or really any bare spots to dodge. A few pinecones. Seemed like 4-5" base still there. Still hard enough to ski on and not leave ruts. Just as I skied back to cabin and was taking off skis when it started to rain, rain and rain.

Started at Gravel Pit and skied north. Most of the trail was in excellent condition. We had to take our skis off one time. There were a few places that had bare spots but we were able to ski around them.
