Observation Scheduling
[ Trails: Closed, Rock skis ]
The ski trails at Willow are now officially open to walkers. You may find parts of the trails skiable , but expect slush, ice, water, and bare ground mixed in with snow. As we've done in the past, if we get skiable snow, we'll try to get out and groom. Thanks for all of the kind words from skiers. It's been a great season.

[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Went out at mid-morning and found the deck and tracks were mostly icy with a few bare spots beginning to emerge along with some pooling of meltwater. Skied the Purple trail and even in the woods conditions were poor for the most part. It's been a fun season and thanks to the groomers for all their work.

A bit icy but groomed this morning and definitely plenty of decent skiing to be had. Woods and low lying areas were particularly icy. No bare areas.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All of the trails were regroomed to level out and smooth the skate deck. Track was not reset but is holding up fairly well and the overnight dusting has helped. Skiing should be good throughout today and into tomorrow morning. There are a few thin spots that will expand with warmer weather.

The Purple loop was a mixed bag of conditions. I Went out around the 32 temp range. Deck was in good shape for skate skis. The tracks are losing some depth and a little structure, however are still usable. There are spotty areas where the tracks are disappearing and exposing the ground, mainly in the sunny areas. A few leaves and needles in the tracks. It was still enjoyable.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The trail system is current being re-groomed. The skate deck is being scratched up, resulting in some kibble while eliminating sheeted ice. Track is being reset where possible. Best wishes to Virtual Birkie skiers.

I had a very good skate ski today at noon on the Nelson farm trail and then back on the blue trails to the lower parking lot. It was mostly very good spring conditions with a firm base throughout, even on the steep downhills. It only got a little thin under the large white pine grove on the second big climb going counter clockwise out of the lower parking lot. Some tree litter at times, but easily avoidable. Classic tracks were a bit more variable but still very decent, with some places still showing the dusting of snow from earlier in the week. I think these trails can hold their snow well for awhile yet given the extensive tree growth canopying most sections. I am so glad I came over the river and rediscovered these trails again after so many years away. This is an amazing place.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails were groomed and tracked Monday morning. The snow was beginning to soften later in the day but there is still 100% snow coverage.

Snow from earlier in the week was wonderful. Tracks were sharp and well defined in most of the areas. The trails appear to have been groomed recently (within past couple days). Light debris on part of the Orange trail in the woods south of the main road, but easy to avoid. Other than the trails leading to the falls, there were very few people.

What a beautiful day to ski Willow River! Trails were in excellent condition. We did it all! The silver loop and brown loop were fantastic; lots of control on the downhills. We were fortunate to see 6 swans... the frosting on the cake!
