Sunny warm sky and groomed perfectly, like we were the first out on a race course. The couple inches of snow Thursday into Friday covered debris and the freezing temps made this days rating an A. Skating and striding were fast! 3 hours of bliss! Miles and miles of smiles. We love March skiing! Some of the best conditions all year! Coming to the end of the season but still will have a few good days left early in the morning. The parking lot had over 50 vehicles and the chalet was closed but hardly ever saw any other skiers. Our porta potty from camping in the summer works great in the back of our van!

Fantastic skating conditions this morning! It felt like midwinter and the corduroy was firm but not icy or uncontrollable. Just fast and fun! I skied a 23 km loop utilizing almost all the trails groomed last night. I used my B skis as there are one or two spots where a bit of gravel got tilled up into the skate deck. The remainder of the trails are fairly clean and still have solid bases with only a few thin/icy spots and the majority of classic tracks are deep and solid. Groomers will be out again tonight, so I’ll be back tomorrow!

Today was another fantastic day of Spring skiing. I arrived just before noon to find many of the core trails had been freshly groomed. I decided to classic ski today. My glide wax was just a tad too warm for the 22 degree temperature so the track was only about medium speed for me. However the tracks were deep and firm. Overall conditions I would classify as very good. Not excellent only because of the slower track speed but that was more my glide wax than trail conditions. I skied Base to Tornado Alley to Survivor to Yukon to C& D to Island Hop to Nepco’s Cruise. Half of that was groomed and half was not. Even the half that was not groomed was still very skiable. By the time I wrapped up several hours later, the groomed track had become much faster. I suspect the track may become a bit icy when it sets up further. Overall conditions were still very good.

I arrived around 9:30 am and realized I had forgotten my ski jacket so I had to return to town to get it. By the time I arrived back at MWP and started skiing, it was around 10:45 am and temperatures were in the mid 30’s. Temperatures had been below freezing during the night preserving the grooming that was done the day before. For the first 1.5 hours, oh what fun it was to ski the trails. The skate deck was firm, fast, and fun. The Spring skiing was fantastic. However, things slowed up considerably the last half hour of skiing as the trail quickly softened.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, Nordicly speaking. The spring skiing is spectacular. Doing well, with a dirty, icy patch here and there. They have a grooming plan through the coming weekend and the weather outlook is favorable to maintain the generally 12+ base. The chalet is closed to scatter folks over the trails. The ski shop remains open for ... five skiers at a time. There is a donation box to offset the $200 per hour Piston Bully tab. Enjoy the spring potholes as you navigate the entrance to skiing heaven. It’ll be bike season before you know it, but not here, not now.

Excellent conditions at Winter Park this weekend for both skating and classical. Fir, fun and fast! The only trails not groomed were River Run, Vo2 Max, Nutcracker and the Fire Tower. Lake Marie, Wolf Tracks, C and D and Island Hop were outstanding. Lots of snow up north. If you are off, get up there and enjoy!

Excellent skiing in Minocqua. Perfect grooming. Skating and classic were both great. Super fast spring skiing. Practice to social distancing on the trails!

Three hours of classic today w/wax and Tom Z used his skins....almost the same results with fast tracks and 99% perfect grooming. Tracks were deep, solid, and a few icy spots. We skied places we haven't been to in a long while and were glad we went there. I cheated and strided on the skate deck occasionally and it was like rockets. Hope there is more snow coming.

Trails with the exception of Lake Marie and some of the more difficult trails like VO2Max and Nut cracker are freshly groomed and in great shape. Skate deck was very firm, but not icy, classic track were icy in spots but looked ok. Kudos to the groomers for an excellent job!

I skied for almost three hours this morning and skated almost all the trails the grooming crew hit! Two power tiller machines went out last night and produced some fantastic corduroy and the majority of the classic tracks were deep and solid. Wolf Tracks was my favorite trail of the day. I think I did it in record time with how fast the decks were skiing! It felt like a quality mid-winter skate. Conditions like this don’t happen very often this late in the season. Groomers are headed out again tonight!
