Notes

2km railroad grade makes for great cruising. Other steeper plunges down to the grade. Trails are in the city of Montreal just west of Ironwood/Hurley. Densely wooded and secluded. Donation box. Connects with 19km Uller trail to Whitecap Mtn, which is even more remote.

Skied from Rose Wreath in Montreal to Weber Lake and back. A few fresh inches of snow made for an enjoyable ski. Ice laden branches and fallen limbs made some parts challenging. Montreal was not groomed since the last snow, but the track was still visible.

Trails were groomed and tracked. Ski conditions were very good today. Skied Ye Olde Trail, Pence loop, Cloochhii's Slide, portions of Stanley's shoot and the Number 4 trail.

Most skiers know about ABR and Wolverine but the Montreal Ski Trails are worth a visit when you’re in Ironwood. Deep tracks and perfect condition over the 10k of old timey single track trails that wind around a former iron ore mining site. Kuddos to the Penokee Rangers volunteers for great grooming.

Enjoyed a ski on the Montreal trails. Sparkling fresh snow and blue skies. There was several inches of fresh snow over the grooming of several days ago. A number of skiers had skied the track in before me. I skied the entire system, all fine for good skis.

Firsthand: Classic Observation
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Moderate temps and fresh snow made for a very pleasant 1.5 hour classic ski on the Montreal trail. The mostly single track trail winds through an old mine site just north of the main highway. While we didn't have time to go all the way to Pence, that section appeared to have been groomed. The trail is in walking distance from our airbnb in Montreal.

They have a decent amount of snow and it is all packed and groomed. Tracks were a bit soft this morning as they were just set last night but were firming up nicely by afternoon. A few brambles sticking up here and there but nothing significant. Very nice day on a very nice local trail system. They have about 10 kilometers of trails that wind through this mostly hardwood forest with a significant number of historical markers as this was once the site of a large underground mining system back in the 1800's to early 1900's. Many historical buildings and structures still exist along the trail from that era. Access to the trail is easiest by parking behind "Rose Wreath", a very large stone building on the east side of town.
