On gut instinct I decided to try Long Rider this morning and was pleasantly surprised. The trail was not groomed following last weekend's rain, so the top snow easily drained the latest soaking, resulting in a porous yet granular deck, which had great glide and excellent traction, almost as if it had just been freshly groomed. Still very good depth, and worth giving it a try, using the normal spring skiing precautions on corners, and in/out of shadows. The gift that keeps on giving!

We have concluded grooming for the year at Razorback. Talked to a few people (from a distance) yesterday who were skiing and they were quite happy with conditions. Old tracks still exist but are quite sketchy much of the time. Skate trails seem to be fine. Remember, it is spring skiing which can change almost on a daily basis. Skiers and snowshoers are still welcome to use the trails.

I skate skied Long Rider. There was only one set of skate tracks from the skier who reported on Friday. My experience was much the same as his. There were several inches of fresh snow on top of a skate deck that had been rain saturated on Thursday. Overall conditions I would rate as good to very good. The fresh snow made things a little slower going. However, that was actually a good thing considering all the steep downhills with sharp curves at the bottom. For once, I didn’t fall on any of them. It was a great day of skate skiing. I returned to the chalet and changed into my classic skis. However, that experience was not very good. There were no classic tracks so I only did about 3 kilometers. I would classify the classic skiing as poor.

I skated Long Rider and enjoyed the few inches of fresh granular snow, which nicely covered over the hard base hit by yesterday's soaking. Really easy going, and the sights were fantastic - nothing compares to early spring skiing in the Northwoods!

Made one pass around all skate loops this morning to break up the glazing that formed overnight and clean up the weekend activity. Skate trails are looking very good with the exception of forest debris on the base loop out of the chalet. Also did more brushing on the main trail and a section of Long Rider.

Near perfect conditions and a beautiful day for a ski! I did Mary’s Frolic and the snow was fast, but not icy. No trouble at all on the downhills. Can’t wait to come back!

Robert groomed all skate loops on Wednesday, and they are hard and fast. A little bit of loose snow with corduroy, and skiing is good. Might want to use caution on the Long Rider and Mary's Frolic loops on the steep downhills with sharp curves at the bottom. I finally passed a kidney stone Wednesday and got out to set new track on the classic side. Four passes, first two with teeth full down, resulted in some decently deep track on Short Cut and Pine Hollow for some stretches, but a lot of shallow to very shallow tracks. Tomorrow morning once it warms into the mid-20s, I'm hoping for some softening snow so I can set decent track on the rest of the classic side. Might leave some with old tracks from last week which are still very skiable.

Tilled and groomed all the skate loops again this afternoon and trails are looking really good. Lou and I spent a few hours this morning brushing the main trail out of the chalet, widening it out a little bit. Still more to do.

Tilled and groomed all the skate loops this morning. Trails cleaned up nicely with all the glazing blended up and blown down sticks picked up. There are a couple sections on Long Rider that have a fair amount of oak leaves on the trail - something I hope do take care of later this week. Another warm, sunny afternoon so watch out for glazing on the trail again tomorrow morning. Will plans to be grooming classic loops Tuesday morning.

I went out and groomed and tracked all classic loops this morning. Our opposites week was received very well, and we are planning another weekend of it in March, depending on snow conditions. After grooming today, all classic loops have mostly excellent tracks, deep and firm. There are just a few places, mostly on the first mile going out and the last mile coming in where the base was hard as a rock, causing some shallow tracks. The skate loops Robert groomed yesterday are excellent with about 1/2" of light powder on top. Robert and I will both be heading to Hayward tomorrow to ski Saturday's Birkie, so our grooming will have to hold up through the weekend.
