Notes

Spidahl Ski Gard (farm in Norsk) is a private touring center located in sugar maple hills four miles south of Maplewood State Park. It has trails groomed for classical and skate skiing with ski and snowshoe rentals available. The owners, Cindy and David Spidahl, love to ski and it shows in the trail layout and grooming.

Trail Reports

Reports 1 to 4 of 4    Month: Feb | Dec
Saturday, February 14, 2026
Morning
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Dave and Cindy continued to maintain the trails incredibly. Though with the temps in the 40s, most trails are open and groomed today. Classic tracks showed the expected deterioration, and some exposed areas now have exposed dirt. Trails are becoming slushy in early afternoon. However, majority of the trails are still completely covered.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Did my Wednesday intervals at Spidahl, and conditions were outstanding. We got new snow in Ottertail County and Dave was grooming away so it should be in amazing shape for the New Year. Snow was a little scoured away in the open areas but still skiable with just a bit of grass poking through. The woods were perfectly covered and beautiful. Thanks as always to Dave and Cindy for creating such an amazing place to ski!

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
All trails are open now from what I could tell. Perfect condition for the trails out in the open field. Some debris for trails in the woods, but still fully groomed. Probably getting a little thin for the classic tracks to be refreshed, but the skate deck was corduroy condition this morning.

Dave and Cindy have kept the trails well maintained, breaking up all the ice sheets. Still very fast, but very enjoyable skate skis. Some woody areas had leaves and debris as expected. The tracks are still there, good enough for classic runs. It'll be their 50th anniversary this weekend!
