Did the 2K loop. Temps 35/37. Used my fisher spyder 62 offtrack which help navigate changing conditions. Quite a few pine boughs and mainly small branches on the trail but still able to plow through even on what was left of the tracks. My favorite classic trail in northern wisconsin. A real gem.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Some amazing volunteers went out yesterday and cleaned up the 2 Km and 4 Km loops of all the brush and trees that were hanging in the trail. I set tracks on the 2 and 4 Km loops today. The tracks are shallow in places, but still decent. The rest of the loops would be a great backcountry ski adventure.

Observation
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Last Saturday, the trails were impacted by an ice storm with rain and snow. The ΒΌ inch coating of ice on everything brought down several trees, branches, and left trees hanging into the trail. The trails are impassable and not groomable, and we are lacking the work crews to clear the trails. We will try and get a loop or two cleared and groomed, but the temperatures aren't looking very groomer friendly for next week. It would be a great backcountry ski adventure, if you do venture out, please help us out by throwing some sticks on your way. Thanks!

A fun Post-Birkie ski on the beautiful trails at Rock Lake. Just did the 7km loop. Conditions very good, just a few sticks and leaves but really no issues. Track was well set, pole plants sometimes soft with the fairly new snow.

All loops are groomed and tracked! The snow set up well overnight, and a majority of the base is solid. There are a few surprise soft areas, but the skiing will be great! Happy Birkie week!

Rock Lake received around 15 inches of new snow. This is a lot of snow to deal with and try and get good grooming results. We were out there all day today packing down the dry, fluffy snow. We were able to groom and track the 2k and 7k loops. We were getting stuck with the groomers on the hills, so will let the rest of the trail firm up tonight. Grooming plans: We will get the rest of the trail system groomed and tracked tomorrow morning. Thanks to our volunteers for helping pack and groom the trails. Happy Birkie week!

We were out on the Rock Lake trail packing the 8-10" of new snow that we received yesterday. No tracks set due to the amount of new snow that is still predicted. Grooming plans: We will be out early grooming the trail on Wednesday morning to get it set for the big week of skiing. If you hold off skiing until the afternoon it should be looking great out there!

Rock Lake received about 4 inches of new snow. Thanks to Tom and Jerome for helping us get the trails groomed and dealing with equipment malfunctioning! All loops were groomed and tracked. On the Rock Lake loop and 11k cut across the steep hills got the best of the snowmobile and there are two hills out there that might be in a little rougher shape after digging the equipment out. One sled also experienced mechanical problems on the return after the 4 Km intersection, but they were able to get it tracked. There are snowshoe trails at Rock Lake to enjoy, as well!

Still waiting for some new snow to hit the area! We worked as much of the leaves and small sticks as we could into the trail base but there is still debris. New tracks set on all loops but the Rock Lake loop. There are some areas where a bit of dirt got pulled up from some rouge snowmobilers out on the 16k loop, but otherwise the trail is still holding up nice and should be in good shape for the coming week.

I skied the loop around Rock Lake, the 16k and the 11k loops. The trails are well groomed. There is a lot of organic debris ...mainly leaves and needles, some scat. At the 7 or 8k mark of the 16k loop, there is a section of 100m where a snowmobile drove on it. So the track is gone. It is easy enough to ski on the side, but the snowmobile kicked up some dirt as well. The snowmobile crossing are rather dirty, so go with B skis. The Rock Lake trails are very beautiful. It is single track with plenty of hills.
