Great spring skiing. Good coverage on the 6K. Mid morning was the sweet spot for snow condition - a little edging with minimal impact on the trail. Most of the 8K is skiable, even where the school kids are tapping the maples. I skipped Hovland's Hill. Picked up many sticks and branches along the way. Be aware of eroding snow bridges over running water. There was some fun crust skiing along the power line, accessible off the biathlon loop.

Skiable throughout. The deck on Jane's 5K was soft by 11am. No classic track but I could shuffle along fine in my old fishscales. The skate skiers glided past. There are some gullies and sticks are plentiful. You can avoid most of both. Dogs were a challenge today. The track is scored with paw prints. I counted four dogs despite the No Dogs sign. One hound stopped me. Another had to be told Leave It! by its owner to stop from running in front of me.

Earth Day ski! Surprisingly good! Full coverage. Several trees down but no trouble getting around. No track on 8k. A few gullies to cross where trail has sunk. Pretty slow conditions but hard to pass up skiing in late April.

Snowflake is a popular place! Still full coverage where we skied. One or two "gullies" to side step over but the rest has lotsa snow! It is not groomed, but was very well used. Dogs are NOT allowed right now but there were footprints from at least one.

We checked out Snowflake today and want to thank whoever skied in some tracks before we got there! I've been spring skiing at Snowflake for at least 20 years and know all the first spots, second, etc that lose snow. It was completely covered with a ton of snow! Bee Hollow tends to lose snow first and the hill is still covered completely, nothing even starting to show! Skins, rilling, and Rode Red liquid actually gave me some glide today too!

37F at 8:30 am. Snowflake closes at noon today. Overcast with the sun peeking out by 9:30 am. The 5k is in very good shape still, very packed but with a little give because of the temps. I skied on a few km of the 8k and that was also really good. It's easy to avoid the sticks on both trails. All of what I skied was mostly clear. I wouldn't bother trying to classic ski.

Kudos to the grooming crew, again! The entire 6K, sans biathalon loop, and about a 1K loop on the 8K (you jump on at the perimeter loop connector, at the 2K mark of the 6K trail) was groomed, transformed spring corn snow greatness. Fast and great control. The classic track was shallow. Excellent coverage but I used my B skis due to all the small debris but nothing really damaging. Enough base to be skiing for a while yet. Thanks for one of the best ski seasons in recent memory Snowflake crew, you really go above and beyond.

Pretty decent conditions for April 7! A little crusty or soft, depending on whether in the shade or the sun, but quite a few skiers out on a sunny morning — all smiles!
Best to call their message line for spring hours, e.g. afternoon closures.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
The just-passed winter storm left a few trees, and a lot of branches and debris on our trails. The mixed precip left a thick crust over damp corn-snow on our deep base. This morning we cleared the trees and larger debris from the 6K, then used 3 sleds and the roller to break-up the crust and compact the damp snow. Then we did multiple Ginzu runs, yielding a decent skate deck. We did the same on a 1K segment of the 8K that can be accessed via the Perimeter Loop Cut-thru, at the 2K marker of the 6K. So, we have 7 km of skate groomed trail. There is still lots of small debris, so B-skis are recommended. Snowflake is Closed to Dogs for the remainder of the season. We will set a classic track on the 6K tomorrow morning. We are open today until 9 pm. We will begin Spring Hours on Friday: Open 7am-Noon, and closed for the rest of the day. We will continue to groom as long as we can get the Ginzus from the garage to the trailhead and groom a skiable loop. At this point in the season, as sun breaks down many sections of the 8K, we do not plan to clear and restore the entire 8K trail.

Skated the system as the morning snow was finishing but before temps rose above freezing. Less than an inch of fresh snow on the trail, but it was fairly compact and served to stabilize things and greatly decrease that spring icy feeling. The 6K classic track looked like it was in pretty good shape. Steepest uphills on the 8K had crusty skate grooves below the fresh snow, but that was only in a few places. The 6K was a little faster and had seen more traffic. Barely any traffic on the 8K. A much better ski that I was expecting.
