Notes

These trails are located about 15 miles south of Munising and are part of the Hiawatha National Forest. Grooming is on a somewhat irregular basis, and trails (three loops) are rated easy to difficult. Described as very wooded and scenic, with more of a "backcountry" feel. There's also a rustic cabin for rent near this trail.

Beautiful classic only trail system, hilly and wooded along small lakes. These are not technically difficult trails, downhills flow nicely into flats or next uphills. We skied Sunday afternoon after Saturday's mixed precipitation and so we met solid tracks with some frozen rain on top of grooming covered with a dusting of snow. We chose our skin skis which worked well. The biggest challenge was poling because energetic poling only resulting in the poles going 8-10 inches into the beautifully deep lake effect snow (the Forest service only has light grooming equipment here). Parking lot is on East side of NF 13 just a quarter mile South of Forest Glen General Store (which is on West side of NF 13).

We skied while the trails were being groomed. Two passes with two snowmobile groomers and track set meant great conditions. Snow was dry, soft, and deep so was safe for the big hills on the far loop.

Groomed everything up today, took two snowmobiles but we got it finished. Use caution back on the hills on C, there was some good drifting that we knocked down but there are still some smaller drifts back there. Should be good to go until next snow event.

Set track on A and B today, turned out excellent. C was not groomed today, but there is only a few inches of fluffy snow on it. Hoping to grooming Saturday morning if it is needed.

Too much snow and not enough time.
Packed entire system, did not have enough time to set track. Hopefully will finish it up Thursday and have track set for weekend.

One of our favorite classic only trails! Met Mark the groomer as we started skiing. Groomer extraordinaire, first he packed the trails with snowmobile, then rolled the trails and then set track, great track. We skied all the loops, but C is our favorite expert trail. The hills crazy, long and steep. You need to be a billy goat to climb some of them, but the downhills are a hoot. Caution: don't ski C alone and plan accordingly- rescue would be about 2 hours. There was no cell signal either. Was like skiing in a snow globe. Amazing ski!

Groomed whole system today, set tracks on A and B. Started snowing really hard so wasn't able to set tracks on C but we got it packed in before the snow. Lots of Beech leaves so use caution. Tracks are in really good shape. Get out there!

All three loops are in excellent condition thanks to the 6 inches we received last night. The trail groomed up nice today. Get out and enjoy.
