Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Mostly good and freshly groomed. Getting thin in places (like the pines), but amazingly good coverage considering. City groomer was making the rounds this morning. Tracks in some places still holding some shape.

I lucked out. I skied Elver early morning before sunrise and surprised to find 1/2" of fresh snow on trail. Although ungroomed, made for very good skating covering up icy spots. No ice on west trail except for parking lot area and open areas; in the woods was real good with full cover. I double poled over the icy spots to east side where out of windy areas were good where new snow stayed on trail. Open areas were icy but controllable. It started to soften up when I finished after 32k. Hopefully fresh dusting will survive warmer temps. Tracks varied from good to icy to none.

Surprisingly good skate deck tonight. Hard-packed and fast. A few spots are getting icy. Mild/moderate debris burden.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Good conditions considering the amount of snow. Lower trails on the West side showed the most traffic. Upper trails were in a little better shape. The open trails on the East side were blown bare in areas. All trails were skiable, even the the track under the pines at the top of the East side.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails are in good to very good shape, with one notable bare spot on the right-hand descending turn heading back to the parking lot. Best conditions can be found on top of the sledding hill. Groomer(s) did an excellent job, they managed to groom great trails (considering how little snow we have and the recent warm days). I skied classic and all tracks are good to very good. Snow is fast, icy in spots, and some oak leaves in tracks.

Skied all of the trails this afternoon. For the most part the skate deck and classic tracks were in really good condition. However, there were a fair amount of dirty spots present that were mostly avoidable.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Conditions are pretty good out there. Corduroy is virtually non-existent since the last grooming, but the skate desk is still very fast and very firm. Classic tracks looked well-established and firm as well.
I lost my black Toyota key fob while skiing on the 'easy' west lighted loop around 6pm. Please reach out if you find it (608-212-5218).

Near perfect for skating, grooming was great. Enough skiers by the afternoon the trails were packed enough for good glide.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The recent powder filled in the cracks! Skate deck did not appear groomed by yesterday afternoon and was fairly soft, but a decent classic track was set. Enough snow to cover the ice slick on the downhill side of "The hill" in the middle of the western loop. Here's hoping that the pistenbully gets on the skate track soon!

Returned to Madison on Sunday and went out on MLK day to skate. Skate deck is much improved since last week, only a few grass/mud spots to avoid. The turn at the bottom of the upper loop (Western lighted trails) still very icy at the bottom. East side trails+ Western lower and middle loop in good condition.
