Observation

The trail is all ice after this weekend's rain. We are unable to groom at this time and are awaiting more snow. Use caution when out on the trail. Wear snowshoes or ice cleats.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Lauterman was groomed. The beginner's loop and half of Lauterman Loop and Porky Loop have been tracked. The track setter broke halfway through grooming. The trails received a few inches of fresh snow this week and are in great condition.

All we can say about this trail is wow! This little gem in the Northwoods is really worth checking out and especially this weekend. This place barely gets used so take advantage of the peaceful beauty of Lauterman Ski Trail. The trail has been groomed, combed and tracked and has has about 7 new inches of snow in the last 48 hours.

Glad to finally check out these trails, which had been on my list for some time. They are technical, old-school, classic trails with some challenging ups and downs. This was especially true as my kick wax was aggressively grabbing many hemlock cones (more grab than oak leaves!?), which made some of the descents exciting. There would have been fewer falls with fishscales or a bit of fresh snow. That said, the tracks were solid, and this is a spectacularly beautiful trail.

Lauterman is in great condition, with all loops groomed and tracked for classic skiing. Indeed, on some of the steeps "aggressive" herringboning might be difficult due to the width of trail, but that is one of many things that make the Lauterman experience so epic and unique. The final descent to the riverbed near western trailhead is a screamer (2nd photo), but staying in the track is safe if trails aren't icy or slick. Currently, they're terrific. Even the "beginners' loop" is groomed, and is much longer than we thought we remembered it being.

It was great to get out of the deep freeze and ski in 20 degree weather. Skied the Little Porky Loop and Chipmunk Trail. Nice deep fast tracks and speedy downhills. My tracks were the first on the trails since they were groomed on Thursday.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Lauterman was groomed and tracks were set. A few inches of powder fell this past week and replenished the trail. The extra cold temps should firm up the trail nicely.

All of Lauterman Trails have been groomed and tracks have been set. Snowmobiles are still used to groom Lauterman. A UTV was used to clear the trail system after the last severe storm. Fresh snow was accumulating while we groomed.
