Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
I groomed the skating lane on the red trail this morning. Due to lack of snow cover and ice patches I did not groom any of the other loops. There are many bare spots. I removed all of the grooming equipment and decided there won't be any more grooming at Zillmer for the season. Hope everyone enjoyed the time skiing this winter. Conditions are poor, bare ground, in many places with patches of good skiing.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
The plentiful rain over the weekend decimated most of what little base we had. We received about 3-4 inches of snow yesterday morning. Things were able to freeze last night and I groomed the skating lanes on all loops this morning. There is a lot of icy patches under the snow that you may encounter where the snow hasn't adhered to the ice yet. Base is thin and may not last long. Conditions are fair. No track set.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We classic skied the red and brown trails in the afternoon. It felt so good to get out. The tracks were a little pushed out in places but considering all the cars in the parking lot, it was a busy day. Thank you to the groomers for all their work to make their magic so we can ski for a bit longer this season. We got such a late start. There were some bare spots on the brown trail, but easy to avoid. If the weather keeps getting warmer, the trails won't last.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Classic skied Zillmer Saturday thanks to the excellent job by the groomers (thank you groomers!). I appreciate that they understand the importance of capitalizing on what snow we do get, and communicating trail conditions on this page. Track was in excellent to fair shape depending on sun exposure. This was a miracle considering temps. Debris was also minimal but with wind yesterday afternoon into evening may have changed. Only a few bare spots; watch the sticks in some of the track. You can get away with your good skis but may want to bring rock skis. I skated a bit with my classic skis as well; deck was soft. Ski early in the morning.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
My annual trip to Zillmer was a success. The fresh snow this week made for an almost fully covered skate deck. Very minimal debris on the trails. I skate skied the yellow and red trails. The one area of caution is the downhill descent from the Ice Age Center, on the yellow trail. There are three stages to this descent. The first, immediately past the Ice Age Center was in excellent condition. The third stage, which ends with the crossing of the bridge, was also excellent. The second stage has an area of thin dirty ice on the right hand side, as you finish the descent. Stick to the left to avoid this. It may get worse with the late winter sun melting this section. The classic track looked to be in good condition for almost all the trail.

We received maybe 5 inches of fluffy snow last night. All loops were packed, groomed and tracked this afternoon. Conditions are good throughout, a couple thin spots in the classic tracks.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
I groomed all loops this morning and finished about noon. We received about an inch of freezing rain ice crystal accumulation yesterday, with maybe a half inch of snow on top. It is a hard thin base and icy if you get off the groomed area. It is skiable but use caution, downhills are fast. There is the usual couple rocky spots showing on the yellow. There is no classic track.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
We received about an inch of fluffy stuff over the weekend, it was helpful. I groomed the skating lanes on all loops this afternoon. Overall fair to good conditions on the skating lanes. The red and green are the best. Watch for a few icy and/or bare patches. The brown is in poor condition under the conifers. I didn't do anything with the skating lanes. Parts of them are good and parts are poor.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
I groomed all of the skating lanes late morning today. It was an icy hard pack that is thin. The grooming helped alleviate some of the iciness. Very skiable but pick your skiing line carefully to minimize surprises of icy spots and some scattered bare spots. Some areas are good and some are poor. The green and red are the best right now. The brown has a lot of debris in the beginning and the end under the conifers. The yellow has a couple of rocky spots that have tops visible sticking up on the east side and downhill on the north end.

Got a light dusting last night which helped a little. I groomed all of the skating lanes on all loops. I went over much of the classic tracks while grooming. The classic tracks are in poor condition. The skating lanes are in fair to good condition. There are some bare spots to watch for.
