Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Grooming began at 4 am and finished at 10:30 - a late start due to falling snow! Three inches of fluff did groom up nicely, with new, deep tracks set throughout and a nice wide skate deck. The firm skate deck now has a soft top. No boulders were spotted or heard knocking off the ginzu so good skis are fine. The tracks and skate deck run tight in a few areas due to a narrow trail. A Kids Ski Program runs today from 1 - 3 pm so expect fully parking lots during that time period.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Classic tracks were set on all trail segments today. Track depth ranges from shallow to excellent. Some drifting will occur overnight from the strong winds happening now. The McD Loop was completely resurfaced but we are still fighting icy remnants from the sled damage. Skate deck quality on the McD Loop varies from nice cord to granola - that's bigger than orange peel in groomer-speak. Overall, the trail base is firm with some fluff from this morning's passing squall.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Rogue snowmobile traffic during the trail closure (due to rain/warm temps) has temporarily destroyed our groomed trails. Only the Campground Loop, Garbage Way, and the last 2km of the 10k (Valley of No Glide) were not ridden by sleds, and groomed up well this morning with a ginzu drag (no knives down) due to the quality of the ice/snow we received. The remaining trails are "Ski at Your Own Risk" due to deep, frozen sled track and skeg grooves. We are formulating a grooming plan to scrub these frozen sled tracks and will get after it soon. Thank you for your understanding.

[ Trails: Closed, B skis ]
Due to warm temps (37F/2.7C) and light falling rain, the Upper Spirit trails are closed today and Saturday to preserve what snow we still have. We hope to open Sunday for skiing, temperature dependent.

High school race course trails were prepped this morning for tomorrow's race, which is scheduled for 11 - 4p.m. Trails today remain open to the public but will be flagged and taped for the 5/10k routes this afternoon. Until new snow falls ski rating is dropped to B Skis due to some exposed rocks (blue paint marked) and other organic matter.

With trail conditions thinning we've begun marking those pesky boulders with blue paint. Excepts thin spots and stretches until our next snow later this week. Spirit is also hosting a High School ski meet Thursday, Jan 14, from 11:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cheers.

All trails were refreshed overnight and the newly laid tracks remain in good condition after the Pisten Bully groom on Wednesday. The skate deck is firm except on the back 10K which remains a little soft and needs a lot of skiers to pack it down! A few boulders are popping up, usually right in the middle of the trail, so heads up. High school ski practice takes place M-F, 3:30 - 6 p.m. and Kids Ski runs from 1 - 2:30 on Sundays.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied Spirit Magney big loop. Spirit 11k was groomed recently and the trail was a little soft and uneven. A lot of the downhills were snow plowed (which made for fast downs!). It really needs to be skied and regroomed to improve. The classic track looked pretty good. There were a few dirt spots (mostly avoidable). Happy skiing!

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Another epic warmer-than-usual calm evening in January, making for super fun skiing with all of this snow. Thank you to the grooming crew at Spirit today! I was able to squeeze in a little classical ski this evening finding deep, solid tracks. It was evident that quite a few skiers were out where the skate deck looks a little soft. Quite a few skaters wanting to use the classical lane, which was kind of a bummer after a recent groom, but I smoothed things out. I did find one rock out there and exposed it quite well on the end of the 5k coming into the 3k trail coming down a little hill. I will try to get out there again tomorrow to put a stick up. The 11k looked good, but I didn't see a classical track.
