Skated 10K on one of the last two remaining dirty patches of man-made corn snow at Spirit Mountain above Duluth, doing roughly 170 laps on a lovely sunny day, for my 171st consecutive day skiing and 183rd of this incredible continuing season. Cheers, skiers!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Today was the last day of formal grooming at Upper. The 3 and 5K were both groomed, skate deck only, so you'll have access to Magney until the bitter end. The CG Loop looks good too. A few notes: On the 5K around the 3.5K marker caution tape is across the trail - heads up - just beyond the tape the entire trail width is bare for a meter or two. And both access trails to the CG Loop have bare spots with rocks/dirt. Best access to the 3 and 5K is to walk from the parking area to the old warming hut at the top, then ski on from there.

Grooming
[ Trails: Closed, B skis ]
As of 8am trails remain un-groomed due to the rain/sleet/snow we received. I did a few laps at Upper on the CG and Warming Hut Loops, then put the sled away. Under the 5.5" of fresh it is slushy and a compaction of the fresh did nothing - my prints sank a good 2-3" further. I'll be back out overnight when the temps dip.

Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied this morning before things began to thaw and it was awesome! Most of the trails had been re-tilled overnight and were in pretty good shape. There are a couple dirt spots that are very avoidable but still a good solid deck everywhere else. We did not do the second half of the 10km as it looked like it hadn't been re-tilled so we just followed the grooming. In the latest report from the groomer, he stated that daily grooming will only happen when overnight lows go below freezing. Used good skis and was able to avoid everything.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The Virtual Birkie course and the Campground Loop skate decks were ginzu refreshed by 6:30 am today. Tracks were not touched as they remain in good condition. 1/2" of new was on the ground, with more falling. Air temp was 28F and snow was moderately moist - no dry powder this time around! All the earthy spots on the trails are now covered with fresh but keep in mind the new snow is thin. Good luck virtual racers!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The Virtual Birkie course plus the Campground Loop were gently ginzu refreshed early this morning - skate deck only b/c the tracks remain in unused or slightly used condition. Two rock locations dead in the tracks on the 5/10K combined trail and the bottom of the hill just past the 7km marker are marked with pink pin flags, while numerous earthy spots dot the entire system. A-skis or B-skis depending how you feel about your bases. Friday's winds put some branches on the course, while more fell during the grooming process, but none large enough to require a chainsaw.

-20F. Tracks in great shape. Larry was grooming while we were there. The furthest west black diamond section, just past the Magney Snively connector, hasn't been groomed in a while, but the tracks are still great.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails and connectors were tracked and combed today with a Pisten Bully. There are a few spots were organic matter is showing; easily avoidable. Since we are hosting the Virtual Birkie some track sets are being moved to the other side of the trail near the Magney Connector and on the McD Loop. Keep an eye out for these changes. Otherwise skiing is fast with deep tracks and firm but not icy corduroy. Watch for a few squiggle in the track on the 10K; I bumped a few trees.

Cold and slow (but faster than Magney). It also looked like it had been groomed more recently. There were the predictable snow drifts. The classic tracks were good in some areas, but drifted in other spots. It would be nice to see some classic tracks on more uphills, too. Stay warm if you ski!

+1F. Outstanding tracks. Lots of oak leaves but they were not too much of a problem. All the recent snowmobile damage has seems to have been fixed. I went around the 10km, skipping the black diamond section at the beginning.
