32 degrees at 7:00 am but trails firmed up well last night, supportable crust in the woods. The 3k seems to have been groomed on Monday and was quite good skiing given the time of year. About 95% coverage but plenty of debris and thin or dirty spots, I recommend rock skis.

Frigid morning but great classic skiing! Mid-winter conditions. Skate deck seemed a bit soft. Tracks of previous skaters occasionally punched into the deck. Firm pole plants for classic. A few minor icy spots where the new snow was windblown down to the old melt layer.

Skied the outer and inner blue loops and all of the green campground area. Trails are freshly groomed and in excellent condition. The skate deck is firm, just a few deeper ruts from skaters on the outer blue loop. One spot coming back around on the inner blue loop has bare ground, but it's easily avoidable. Hardly any debris. Also, emailed with Spirit and they are planning to install maps at trail intersections this summer (right now there are just a handful of signs, and they and they don't reflect all new changes to the trail system).

Trais have not been groomed since yesterday and today's snow so there was about 1-2 inches of powder over the skate deck and the classic tracks were filled in in most spots. Snow was drifting a bit so the tips of my skis were getting caught in snow mostly on the left side of the trail. I skied the inner blue loop, all of the green, and the black to the Magney connector and back. Minimal debris. A bit windy but temps were great for skiing.

The best summary adjectives I can come up with to describe the current grooming conditions on the upper spirit trails are weird, confusing, and untrustworthy. Snow coverage is good but the amount of debris led to the B skis rating. I classic skied the 3 K Loop and the full 10K loop. The grooming on the 3 K Loop seemed to be that there had been a pass done on the skate deck since the refreeze but the classic track had not been reset since the trails froze after going to above freezing late last week. This led to a scratched up skate deck that allowed one to get an OK edge and a rock hard ice luge classic track with a fair amount of debris in it. The same grooming scenario was on the McDonald's loop of the 10k. Continuing on the backside of the 10k, it appeared that they had tried to set a new classic track along with skate deck. Skate deck was just a thin scratch, and in some places, it didn't actually clear up icy, frozen rutted sections on the downhill (that you could not see until you were on them) and the classic track was very shallow and easily disrupted by skate ski tracks of which there were a lot. One bottom of the downhill on this section of trail is getting really close to having some overflow frozen water on it in a low spot. In the last three lobes of the 10K that are rated as most difficult, light grooming continued, and almost seemed to get worse at times with a classic track that was partially there, and had weird ruts to it. It wasn't necessarily always flat and the skate deck would suddenly go from being overall pretty good to an icy section with ruts. There was also a lot of bumpiness to the skate deck overall. The connector to Magney had not been recently groomed and was full on icy skate deck. The connector to lower spirit had been recently groomed, but this was apparently where the groomer turned off of the upper spirit trails and the rest of the 10k loop from that point onward to the trailhead was pure ungroomed ice with debris. Skate skiing probably would have been more pleasant but still kept you on your toes. It didn't appear that the campground loop had been recently groomed either.

Skied the outer 5k blue loop and inner campground loop. The outer 5k is not yet groomed so I broke trail in the deep snow, very peaceful. The inner campground loop is groomed and in pretty good shape. There are a few sticks and branches here and there. I didn't ski it but it appears the black trail portions are also groomed from what I could see.

Skied the inner campground loop. Surprisingly ok conditions given the warm weather. There are plenty of bare spots and sticks in the trail but all are avoidable and nowhere is completely bare. Was classic skiing mostly on the skate deck as the tracks are not in the best shape. The snow is somewhere between slush and ice, not too fast but also didn't stick to my skis.
