[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Hartley was pretty freshly groomed and in awesome shape when we hit it around 11ish today. Temps were around 40 so it was just softening up. I marked B skis because there will be bareground and tree debris, but you could use your good skis if you don't mind the tree stuff. There were only two open spots on the "easy" loop and the "blue" loop was fine. The open spots are going to grow today but should still be easily passable by tomorrow. There are a couple of areas of ice that will probably be water later too. Someone put a sign at the start of the ski trail reminding people not to walk on it and it has worked so far!

Pleasantly surprised this morning to find Hartley freshly groomed. Skied all sections. Perfect spring skiing on the new deep set tracks!

Was in town for the weekend and desperate for a positive trail report so I could try my new skin skis. Thanks to Sara's trail report I headed over to Hartley around 3:00. I wasn't disappointed. The trails were but fast, and the skins provided great kick and glide. Tracks were burning up in the sun and may not last too long. Thanks to the City of Duluth for the grooming.

Freshly groomed, deep tracks! Saw lots of folks out there already between 8 and 9AM. I was lazy and used waxless skis, but the snow looked like it was pretty transformed and was ready to eat off a wax job that wasn't done properly. Pine areas and leaves are not a problem at this time.

We classic skied Hartley today and the tracks are kinda still there, they are filled with lots of tree debris so B skis are a better choice. Tracks were pretty firm, but the pole plants in the area between the tracks went all the way to the ground with my smaller basket poles -- my husband had older poles and his were fine. The pole plants on the outside of both sets of tracks were just fine. The snow is in between that nice corn snow and something else...not sticky, not icy, just normal.

21 F at 11:45 AM, blue sky, fresh grooming, great tracks. Fast wax blue (HSP-20) paste gave great glide, and an old, old Swix Blue gave perfect kick. My spouse scored some old kick wax at a garage sale last summer. How old? The brand new Blue had a price tag of $2.85 on it! On days like this, Hartley is mighty sweet, not sure it could get any better. I love the old white pines (pic).

Recent snow fall of +4 inches is covering the hardpacked trail. There's rough classic tracks on most trail but no grooming yet.

Skied all of Hartley around 4pm. Groomers have not been out yet, but there has been enough traffic to make pleasant, glide-able tracks. Not particularly fast, but with the warmer temps and the sun shining no complaints here.

Still nice conditions at Hartley - classic tracks are still crisp and the snow has not transformed into anything even remotely aggressive on the wax. With the wind, though, some bark, pinecones and needles have come down. Minimal impact. The only place some leaves slowed me down is in the long downhill section of the outer loop. I didn't experience any drifted snow.

And the snow just keeps coming! Hartley still had firm tracks early afternoon. But the snow was coming fast! A lot less debris than last time I skied here.
