We skied Hartley today, the "blue" loop -- so instead of going right onto the "green" we took the left. The snow that is there is fun dirty corn snow. The first part has a couple of open spots you can walk over on rock skis or on foot. Beyond that, it was 98% covered and 99% connected! There is one tree that takes away the downhill joy in one spot unless you can jump well...and another one. Plenty of snow left!

Yesterday's nicely skied-in track has been badly damaged by a hiker who walked directly down the tracks throughout almost the entire system. It was still better than not skiing, but not nearly as good as yesterday.

Surprisingly good skiing on waxed skis. Trail is set by skiers and weaves around a bit, but the snow was fresh and fairly fast. No sticking. Two trees down on trail. Watch out for the one heading downhill towards I! Only a little debris on the tracks, which is 99.9% snow-covered but getting thin in spots. Had the pleasure of waiting about three minutes for a very slow-striding sharp-tailed grouse to cross the trail.

Surprisingly skiable. Yesterday's snow covered the few open spots. There's a skied-in track throughout, and most of the walkers have not walked on it. The easy loop has better snow than the hillier loop but they're both skiable. You never have to take off your skis as long as they're not your favorite skis. There are a couple of trees down, including one at the bottom of the little hill between H and I.

Well, we skied Hartley today and it was 100% covered, with a mixture of ice, footprints, and more underneath, none of which was an issue. The Atomic skins clumped, the zero's clumped, the Fisher Twin skins had the most amazing glide! Lots of snow left there, based on the deep footprints we were able to see! Of course the usual places near the pines and where water runs were probably bare prior to the new inch or two.

Fun, slow slush skiing. There's still a lot of snow - just one bare patch you can't ski around. Watch out for a hidden open spot on Hartley's only significant hill. You can't see it until you're just about upon it. There's a pretty good skied-in track throughout. Lots of boot and dog prints but still very skiable. The crust off trail was skiable when I was there, too.

Hartley was really fun to ski today! The trails were not walked on, we had fresh fun snow, and 100% coverage! Three of us had skins and one had waxless...no clumping at all just fun gliding! They were not groomed.

Full coverage at Hartley and skied in tracks. We used our good skis with no issues...totally debris free tracks too! Thankfully the trails were footprint free and just one set of dog tracks.

Sticky and melty, but still quite skiable. Only saw one other recent set of ski tracks. Not groomed recently. Skis sunk in a few places, making it feel more like snowshoeing.

Warmer-than-expected overnight temperatures, but the ground is cold enough that it still froze up pretty solid on the Hartley trail system. Surprisingly good, even for hard wax skiing. Tracks are still quite deep. Tracks on about 40% of the system are glazed pretty good. The good news is that the glazed tracks are usually on the flats and downhill areas where it is fast enough to double pole, with grippy snow on most uphills yet. The corners where there are no tracks or skied-out tracks are luckily not yet transformed into ice, so control was much greater than expected. Tree material in the tracks is surprisingly minimal, especially considering the time of year and Saturday's wind. The steep downhill is icy, but a good snowplow will slow you sufficiently to be able to make the corner where the snow again becomes powdery. Fast enough to fit in an extra loop into your daily ski!
