Pattison is absolutely beautiful and one of my favorites, today however, the views were there, but the tracks were not so much. We skied the entire system and found the overlook trail, which I know the groomers have worked really hard on since the thaw freeze, to have the "best" tracks which were still very shallow, maybe a quarter inch at most deep. The Riverview and the rest had intermittent tracks on about 20% of the trail. The trail itself was really firm and level for the most part, just missing tracks. I know they are working hard, but with smaller equipment it is tough! Debris was minimal in most areas, animal tracks seem to be more present when the deep classic tracks are there and they were absent today! We were thinking skating would have been fun today, but it is a classic only trail.

The Overlook Trail was groomed and tracked today. Due to the warm and cold temperatures recently and lack of fresh snowfall, the ski deck is very hard, making it difficult to groom. Oak Ridge and River View trails were not groomed but are in very good condition. There will be some glazing in the tracks on those trails. There is 18 inches of ski base with over 24 inches of snow in the woods.

Pattison was groomed yesterday then a light coating covered everything today. The tracks were in awesome shape except for the sections the deer had a party on at the beginning of the River, another spot on the River and one small area on the end of the Overlook. Unfortunately someone took their skis off on the really steep hill towards the end and walked right down the middle of the trail for quite a bit of the hill leaving foot deep prints. I was still able to snowplow but the guys I was with chose to side step. Pattison is one of my favorite classic trails because it is extremely peaceful, winding through the woods with rolling hills and impeccable grooming, it's always fun! If you head out that way to ski, make sure you check out both Big and Little Manitou, they are absolutely gorgeous and flowing with ice around them.
