We decided to see what was left at Magney today. The first hill is bare from gate to sign. From the top of the hill until the intersection that goes right to the connector or up the hill to the loops, about .25 from the start, The snow is about 85% connected. Once you get there, the snow is about 95% connected. We did take skis off a couple of times. We did not explore Bardon's or Ely's. At the junction of Ely's and the right turn, about 1 mile in the snow is much better, 100% connected and only one set of footprints. So, if you are like me and enjoy skiing until the last drop, have good grass/rock skis you can walk over the non-snow areas, or don't mind taking skis off and walking, check it out!

I knew we got 9 inches of snow at Magney earlier this week, also knew a lot of it was still there so I ventured out today to see what it was like. It is not groomed, which I knew, and the first small hill from the gate to the map is missing some snow (some people went sledding there and left a lot of footprints causing melt), after that it is pretty much all connected except one teeny tiny spot. A couple of small bare spots here and there nothing much at all, I'd say it is 99% covered. There are some footprints, but the snow was soft and I had great glide on my skins!

We classic skied Magney today at 11 am when temps were 48 degrees. Temps overnight were supposed to stay above freezing but we had some slightly frozen puddles at our house so it must have dipped a bit. The trail we were on was 100 % connected with one small spot open that was easy to get around. The start of the trail has some of that spring ice, most you can easily get around. Once you get past the first hill and turn to the right, the trail is all snow and really nice! Tracks are there, very little to no debris too. The skate deck is pretty darn firm with just enough to get an edge, not icy except in a spot here or there and it's not the scary kind of ice. If you like to ski in the spring, this is it!

We skied at 11 today, temps were in the 40's never went below freezing overnight. I expected some mushy -- what we got was hard packed styrofoam on the skate deck and very shallow tracks for classic. We barely left any trace of being on it because it is so hard packed. On another note, they started work today on the "closed" portion of the road just past Magney and there are some pretty big ruts in the road once you get past the paved portion. This will be going on for at least a few months if not longer.

It looks like the skate lane was regroomed sometime within the last few days, but the classic tracks were not reset. The tracks are a little shallow but still good. I skated a few strides here and there in my fish scale classic skis and it seemed like the skating was nice.

Groomer was finishing up on the skate deck when we started in the early afternoon. Both skate deck and classic tracks were soft and loose with the new snow. Still very enjoyable xc skiing in the Magney-Snively woods, sheltered from the wind.

Freshly groomed except for the connector to Spirit. Skate deck was a little soft and pole plants broke through often. Classic tracks were firm and deep.

It looks like the groomer made a pass on the skate lane recently. It was a fun ski on firm groomed corduroy. The classic tracks were partially washed out and partly reset. It was cold with subzero temps. Hoping it will be warmer for the Birkie!

Skate deck is still pretty soft and fluffy. Looks like the most recent snow hasn't been groomed, doesn't appear to have been heavily skied in. Classic tracks were a bit faster, but pretty blown out in places.

Some of the tracks were thin and washed out. The skate deck appeared soft and uneven in places. Disappointed that the groomer did not set a track on the uphills. Except for a few of the really steep hills there isn't any problem striding up most of the hills if you are properly waxed.
