Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Classic track still very skiable. A little icy, a little shallow, a little leafy here and there but warm sun makes it all worthwhile. Had the park to myself.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
With the return of cold temperatures and a fresh grooming the XC trails are in great shape. Wissota State Park also has groomed trails for snowshoes, fat tires and walkers. Just respect each other's trails.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Just finished grooming. All trails have a clean skate lane and classic track. We received about 2" of new snow and things cleaned up nicely. It should set up overnight and be good for a while.

The snow conditions are very good. Skate deck is flat and not rutted. Classic track is present everywhere and really nice in most places. The issue remains to be the leaves on the trails. Everything was cleaned up on Thursday when I groomed but leaves continue to fall as the wind picks up. The worst of it is the East side of the Staghorn trail. I was on classic skis. Initially with wax and later with skins. Waxless is clearly the better choice. I would judge that skating should be pretty nice if you are careful not to plant a ski right on top of one. A lot of them were chopped up in grooming and are just small chunks. Still a good day to be out on skis.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I just finished grooming all trails for skate and classic. The wind continues to add debris to the trails but for now most of it is groomed under. The light fluffy snow did not build up the trails and there were still some ruts in the ice underneath. I think everything is pretty well groomed out. Should be good skiing on the weekend once we get through the frigid night.

Skied the Jackpine loop. No classic track left except for the portion that is shared with the staghorn trail. The track was nice and deep on the baseball field. Skate skiers dream with the skate deck firm and corduroy.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I just finished grooming all of the trails. There is a fresh skate deck and new classic tracks. I include two loops in the ball diamond for ski lessons. Conditions should be excellent for at least a couple days. There is a little debris on the trails (leaves, twigs, etc.) but for the most part things are clean. Enjoy!

Classic skied late afternoon until sunset and groomed track is still very skiable. Used wider tracking skis such that I was firm in the track from side to side without cutting into it. Probably set it deeper too by a quarter inch. Should firm back up nicely with colder temps. Wax less skis gripped perfectly and glide was good. Also re-tracked over previous set track in the middle of some of the multi-use trail. Be nice if snowshoers didn’t traipse on it ... trails are wide enough to drive a semi on them and sides are well packed for walking. Early spring skiing at its best!
