I’ve been holding off on sending an update on the Drummond Ski Trails, waiting for more snow. Presently, the trails are hard and icy, but have had an inch or two of fresh snow to cover the glaze. The tracks are holding up well, it is just showing signs of use. At this time of year it is always a mental struggle to decide if chewing up what’s there and setting new tracks in the hard pack is worth the hours spent. Will it be an improvement is always the question. It is also difficult to get the grooming snowmobile out to the trail from the Drummond town garage when Lake Owen Drive becomes mostly bare of snow or ice. The prospect of snow at this time of year has sometimes meant a big dump of snow, followed by 40 degree temperatures. That also makes it hard to invest the three hours or so of grooming, only to see it turn to soft tracks. We’ll keep an eye on the weather map and weigh the chances of additional grooming.

New snow, new tracks. The Drummond Ski Trails are in great shape for the Birkie weekend. Dale incorporated the 5” of new fluff we received into the existing base and set new tracks. Enjoy our trails.

New tracks were set today on all trails. Earlier, the tracks were still well formed, but icy and fast. After aggressively scarifying the old tracks, mixing the three or four inches of fresh snow in with the old, good, full depth tracks were set. The sunshine (!) have made the trails and woods particularly beautiful today. All set for Birkie week.

All of the Drummond Ski Trails have newly set tracks. We renovated the icy trails that the recent meltdown caused and were able to set new tracks that are well formed and full depth. Because we had to do considerable scarifying, they may be soft in a few places. Skiing conditions are great right now with new tracks, sunshine and warm temps.

Trails groomed 2 days ago. This morning was 20 degrees w/ 1/2 inch of new low moisture fluff. Skied track was magnificent. Plenty fast. Waiting to see the sun?

All of the trails have new tracks. The 5” of new, wet snow were combed out and new tracks set today. Tracks look great and the woods is gorgeous with the snow hanging on the branches. If the slightly below freezing temperatures hold, skiing should be excellent.

All of the trails received new tracks today. There was about 8” of fluffy, new snow that got compacted and then tracked nicely, burying all of the fallen oak leaves and twigs. It should set up well overnight for good skiing. It was a treat to see that someone had deep-snow skied all of the inner loops before I had a chance to groom then. Just like the old days.

New tracks were set on the Drummond Ski Trails today. The latest few inches of fluffy snow were incorporated with the old surface and then tracked. There are still numerous oak leaves that need additional snow in order to be buried, but the tracks look good and the surface is smoother.

All of the Drummond Ski Trails have new tracks set. Thanks to Jesse, the 5” of fluffy, new, dry snow was incorporated into the existing damp base with some very nice tracks. As of noon today the parking lot had not been plowed.
