Notes

This is a remote trail that is groomed by volunteers for classic skiing that goes thru jackpine forests, black spruce swamps and over glacial eskers. A skier will probably see more tracks of deer, wolves and moose that they will of other skiers. A snowshoe trail is also starts by the trailhead. Located two miles south of Hellman's Store on CR 44.

We discovered Mother Bear this winter and it's already our favorite. Up until yesterday we had just skied these beautiful trails, but Saturday decided to check out the snow shoe trails. Good choice, the Glacial Eskers are stunning, well worth checking out and next time I'll bring a camera.

All trails have been tracked. We have 23" on the ground, with 7" in the past 24 hours. Conditions are excellent. If your coming with people who don't ski, there is a beautiful snowshoe trail across the road from the ski trail parking lot. Enjoy.

All tracks are groomed for classic. We skied 1 to 11. Fast and cold. Deep, clean tracks with only a little pine needle debris. Hills are fast and tracks are a little blown out from other skiers. This new snow should be perfect!

-10F when we got there. Trails were a bit icy below but had a nice coating of new snow on top. Good track-set and grooming everywhere. Snow was about 1.5 feet deep. The skiing was great. We really like Mother Bear because of the narrow, single track-set trails. We skied for 2.5 hours and had the whole place to ourselves.

Conditions are poor. We are waiting for more snow before we pack and track. 5" on the ground in open areas, but less under tree cover on the trail.
