Notes

Very scenic with views of the Flambeau River and a heavily timbered landscape. Portions of the upper loop and cutoffs on the east side of the lower loop are more challenging. There is a three-sided shelter on the west side of the upper loop.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Trails are in poor condition with the recent warm temps. There is still a decent base but it is littered with debris and very icy. Some thin spots are showing. Grooming operations have stopped for the year unless we get significant snowfall.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Today all trails were groomed. Short Swing, Squirrel Tail, Pinery Grade, and Pelican loops are tracked. Snuss between Pelican and Pinery Grade is not tracked. Track are very shallow for the most part. Trail base is still very icy and was difficult to get a deep cut even with the warm temperatures. There are some thinner areas starting to appear in some areas. A lot of debris is showing up as well. For the most part, the trail system is in good condition yet. Skate skiing conditions vary greatly with different times of the day. Mornings can be very icy from cool temp drops at night and then become soft with the afternoon sun. Trail conditions won't last long with very warm temperatures. Unless we get a fair amount of snow accumulation, grooming operations will likely slow to almost no grooming. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Given the state of the groomer, all trails are in good condition. After a couple light dustings of snow I went out and was able to scratch the surface and mix it in a little. After last Sunday's extremely warm temperatures, followed by very cold temps on Tuesday and Wednesday, the trails became solid and very icy. No tracks were set today but the skate deck turned out great. The forecast calls for warm temperatures which is what needs to happen so the trail softens up and I can cut deeper to create a track. There is a fair amount of debris on the trails as well.

Observation
[ Trails Open: All ]
We went out to ski at Flambeau today but the skate deck was very icy, too slick for us to ski safely so we didn't get to go. We thought it would be softer given the temperature but no such luck.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
All trails were groomed and are in good condition. The groomer is still broken (normally has two rows of cutters, down to one) but I was able to scratch the surface. The tracks are very shallow in areas but still in good condition. Skate deck isn't perfect (little snow pebbles) but still in good condition as well. We're making it work with what we have at the moment.

Morning
Observation
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
The groomer is broken down again and replacement parts may not get here until later next week. The entire system does have a single pass from yesterdays grooming efforts but is mainly on the left side and there is no track. I will update again as soon as operations continue.

Skied all the trails. Nicely groomed wide trails all groomed for skating. No tracks today--but the ranger said they will set soon. Didn't see anyone else all day. Just me and the trees.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
After the fresh couple inches of snow I went out to start cutting and leveling but when I got to the north parking lot I noticed the groomer's bar that holds all the teeth started to break. So I was unable to cut the rest of the trail. I did manage to use ratchet straps to hold the teeth up while I finished making a single pass around the entire system just to help pack it down. There is fresh cord but it is very soft with no track and is only on the left side of the trail for most of the system. The plan is to be operational again tomorrow and will finish grooming before the weekend. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
All trails were groomed today. Other than some debris from yesterday's winds, the trails are in great shape. The skate deck is excellent for the most part. The tracks for classic skiing are shallow in a few spots and not fully formed but are still good. Note: Ridge Run segment closed.

Fantastic conditions at Flambeau today! I skate skied the figure 8 and it was just perfect. There were a few twigs and animal tracks but nothing to fret about. Classic tracks were set but not used yet so uncertain of condition. It is snowing now but I am hoping these great conditions last through the weekend. Thank you Joe! Excellent job grooming!
