Trail Reports

2022-2023 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 11    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied the 11 km blue loop twice-recently groomed but very thin base in spots-plenty of tree debris in spots B skies recommended Tracks were thin and some areas bottomed out. Big uphills still had coverage but some with debris but not icy. Enjoy while it lasts. Nice upgrade to cabin at start with three indoor toilets as well as changing rooms. Would be nice if they do the same for the Nordic trails as they are more heavily used.

Tracks are only skiable on roughly 15 % of the trails. Exposed grass and leaves abound. Skate lane in much better shape.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomers packed and rolled all sections of McMiller. Trails are rated to be good to very good across the system. Temperatures are holding around 20*F, and the sun is shining. Enjoy!

Wow, it was almost noon and I was amazed how good skate skiing still was. A little slow at places, but fast elsewhere. Biathlon loop is in almost top shape! Watch for dirt and possibly rocks on the blue loop though. Come on over, it won't last!

Rough going for classic striding today. Spent more time out of the tracks than in on the blue loop. Skate deck was firm, but many spots where the groomer kicked up debris.

Finally enough coverage! While there weren't bare spots, there was leaf and stick debris littered about. I did see several rocks on multiple hills that were kicked up also. I wouldn't bring my good skis, but rest assured there is actually enough snow to have a decent ski! Only bummer was deep 3" boot prints in the last couple miles.

Sunshine, plenty of snow, flush toilets, good grooming but no tracks, but they were still grooming when I left at 2 pm. Fabulous new building at trailhead.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails were rolled early today and grooming for skate was in progress through the afternoon, and still is as of now at 5PM. 8 inches fell, at least. It's deep and, for now, soft. No classic tracks as of now.

Lots for leaves, twigs and pine needles on many parts of the trails. Open areas were thin at times and in other areas in very good shape. Overall marginal conditions. The Biathlon trail had the best coverage, and if you go, that would be the place to ski. The groomers did a really great job with the snow they had to work with.

Skied every loop starting with the black. The hilly part of the black has lots of rocks on the climbs so avoid that section. The purple loop was pretty good except a few rocks on a couple climbs. The inner shorter loops were soft but downright awesome. The groomer did the whole system.
