The ski trail in Silver Bay continues to be really good! Some of the snow on the sides that was not compacted has melted some, but it's still got about a 12 to 18 inch base and most of the sides are the same too! My good old Trak skis were so darn fun today and I had a lot better glide in the corn snow at 46F than I did last Sunday on my skins. The portion we skied was 96% covered and about 98% connected! If you go, which I highly recommend, go backwards on it take the right side as you are facing the trail, the snow is even better there!

We found out about all this snow on the ski trail in Silver Bay and took a roadtrip this afternoon. First time ever on the trail and it is beautiful! The trail goes along a rushing river if you take the left fork, which is the correct direction according to the sign. According to the deep footprints, there looked to be at least 20 inches of snow left. Thankfully the person who missed the other skier tracks and very large sign stating no walking, only went a short distance. Plenty of snow left, only one small spot that was not connected and 99.999% of the remaining snow we were on was deep and all the way across. There were at least 3 trees down in the first half mile... we went under two and had to go up into the woods following other tracks for the other one. Lots of teeny tiny pine needles on the trail, some tree debris, some areas just white and clean. The snow is amazingly not really dirty, it's just got nature on it. If you want to ski in May... and avoid the drive all the way to Onion River, this is the place... or go to both!

There are multiple other skier tracks on the trails. I removed skis twice to go over or under downed trees but never for bare spots. Snow getting dirty in some place, may still be skiable through the weekend.

Full coverage with some debris. Firm base with thin layer of slushy snow on top for glide. Large tree down across trail about 1/2k in. The Beaver River is rushing by the trail.

Scouted for possible ski tomorrow. Trails fully snow covered, hard crust on top, no tracks. Might be worth a try if today is snow, not rain.

Well this may well be my swan song for an epic north shore ski season. Thanks for all the work that went into the trails! It must have been a wet and wild night in Silver Bay Tuesday night as they got 6-8"of mashed potatoes and let's just say a little debris on the trail (see photos). Not a day for skinny race skis, but my Madshus M50 hairys continue to amaze. There is still tons of snow up there. Recipe for a fun light backcountry outing; BC fishscale skis like the Eon/M62, Epoc/M68 or an E88 and get there first thing in the morning. Maybe I'll go one more time after all.

Warm conditions made for an enjoyable tour. No recent grooming, but there was enough track left in most places. Deep snow remaining everywhere on the trail.

Nearly unskiable: very thin crust on top of deep powder. Impossible to get a pole plant and skis sank in on a kick as well. I gave up and went to Gooseberry. Bummer because the trail system is so beautiful and the problem is, if anything, too much snow. Not worth your time until groomed again.

Beautiful sunny day in the woods. The trail has ample snow but there was some melt from the warmer weather so the trail lost kick, was a bit crusty and fast. Hard to control speeds down hill with slipping going up. Still a gorgeous outing!

Great ski. Trails look like they were groomed last night and so they have a little blow-over on some very small sections. Condition was excellent.
