Trail Reports

2019-2020 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 26    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails were in very good shape. New snow would be helpful but trails were groomed well for the older snow that was available. It was icy and fast in the morning and slowed later in the morning where the sun hit the track.

Very excited when I saw Larson Lake had been groomed, made skiing here today a priority and glad I did. Nice deep classic tracks, and very few leaves! A beautiful peaceful ski and gorgeous day! Thank you for grooming!

Grooming

Grooming the trails as I write this report! Trails are looking really nice and the track is good in some spots but poor in a few spots.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Out to Larsen Friday afternoon, most of the trail system has not been fully groomed for weeks but with 1/2" of powder on top skiing was much better than expected. Hardpack - yes, but I skated the outer loop and had no trouble getting an edge in. The downhills well like Richard Petty said "If you aint a little scared your not going fast enough"!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed about half of the trails until the groomer once again broke down. What I set of classic track is in poor condition and the skating deck is littered with snowmobile tracks and boot tracks from what I think is a trapper. I do not recommend skiing here until further notice.

It is very sketchy fast icy. I skied around the lake instead. Until the groomer gets fixed, head over to Aitkin and ski the No Achen trail instead of risking a broken hip.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomer once again broke down while grooming. The outer loop now has lots of snowmobile tracks from the rescue of the broken equipment. It is unlikely trails will be groomed before the weekend.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skating and classic. It stayed at 32 or colder all day no melting. About 2 feet of snow on the ground. There was about an inch and a half of fluffy snow on the ground. The skating was good. I explained to my ski partner how after a while he will become annoyed by the fluff. The classic track was great, we used V40 for kick and got excellent results. The track was fast. There were many couples out classic skiing which just kept improving the track.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Packed with the snowmobile and then groomed the trails. Firm base but the deck was soft from this fluffy snow. There are also a few places on the outer loop where I had to set track for a little bit on the skating portions (groomer kept getting stuck going up hills trying to pull all that fluffy snow).

One inch of new snow covered the leaves! Skied in previously set track around outer loop. Second lap better than the first.
