Trail Detail
Notes
The trail weaves its course through ever changing scenery dominated by maples, then birch, pine and hemlock. It oversees two river basins: the Prairie flowing west and Hunting flowing east.Trail Reports

Due to the road into the trail and parking lot not being plowed for the rest of the season, the Moccasin Trail was last groomed on Friday, March 13 and will no longer be groomed this season even though there is plenty of snow on the trail. The frost is out of the ground on the road and the 20 inches of snow we received the past two days cannot be plowed without causing road damage. Thank you to all who came and enjoyed the trail this season.

Received 8 or more inches of snow. The trail is packed, groomed and tracked but is soft due to all the new snow. The frost was out of the ground on Bear Lane and the parking lot and will not be plowed anymore this season. The town truck got stuck today and left some deep ruts. Suggest parking at the beginning of Bear Lane off Moccasin Lake Road if someone really wants to use the trail.

After the recent warm weather there is still a 6 inch plus base around almost all of the trail. Only 3 short areas do not have snow all the way across the trail but there still is snow to ski past and not areas of ponding water. Sticks and branches have been removed but there is debris in the areas of hemlock trees. The skate deck was firm and crusty, uneven in some spots but very good for skate skiing. The classic tracks are gone.

The trail has an 18 inch base and is good for skate skiing early morning before it gets above 32 degrees. Skate deck is fairly flat with a light crust and fast. For classical the tracks are still present but look icy. One person walked around half of trail but did not seriously affect skate skiing. No ponding of water at this time and trail is debris free. Parking lot is good, but Bear Lane has some ruts from traffic when it is warmer.

With the warm weather Friday and cold weather today, the trail is very firm. The skate deck has a crust on it and is very good for skate skiing including the hills. Removed all the twigs and branches off the outer loop. Classic tracks are icy.

The trail is groomed and tracked and in very good to excellent condition. The skate deck is a little soft due to the 6 inches of new snow. Trail is cleared of branches and debris. Snowshoe trail has also been dragged with a few hemlock branches hanging over the trail due to snow on the branches in one area. Parking lot not plowed yet, but was cleared after the slushy snow last Wednesday and is ok.

The trail is still in very good to excellent condition with about a 10 inch base. A few leaves in the tracks in some areas but overall the trail is clear of debris and tracks look very good. Some light snow on the skate deck on loops not used as much. Skate deck was firm this morning and not affected by the warm weather yet.
