Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Very recently groomed, and the trails were in very good shape. There were a fair amount of oak leaves in the woods from yesterday's high winds. It was starting to get a little soft around lunchtime as I was leavinmg.

Surprisingly good skiing given the recent weather. Must have been groomed since Sunday. Only a few spots sun soaked spots that are getting thin.

Some debris down but we have good snow in Madison and Kegonsa finally groomed yesterday. Skate deck is great and classic track exists but kind of banged up. Full coverage everywhere but because of a medium amount of debris, I used my B skis.

Observation

What a mess! No grooming has been done after the great snow fall. Trails were hard and a bit iced from other skiers tracks, classic tracks looked washed out.

As of 8:40 this morning nothing has been groomed. I backcountry classic skied the white oak trail a few times and another skier blazed the blue. There was a park ranger plowing the roads but I don't know what the grooming plan is. Bring your classics skis it was a beautiful snowy morning, maybe with enough traffic you can get a good glide in.

A bit disappointing today ... It looks as if grooming was done on some but not all trails, and only a single pass. That left the state deck rather soft and uneven and the classic tracks very uncertain. Kind of the worst of both worlds. When I skied at about 1:30 PM no grooming had been done to the far (southern) end of the prairie loop at all. I did not see any grooming in progress when I skied. Maybe a final effort is yet to come today. It certainly is skiable and better than brown grass, but I thought there might be a better effort made with this new snow.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I skied White Oak and Blue Loop. It was a better skating day as the deck was hard and firm but had obvious ski and hiker wear on both trails. There was more leaf and stick debris in the White oak and some of the classic tracks were washed out on the hills. Blue Loop had less debris, and skating was fast and a more bumpy. Classic on the blue was like moving through sludge, even with clean tracks my "no wax" skis did not make for a fun fast experience. Trails were best for skaters.

A great ski today. Skate deck is firm and level for the most part, especially in the camping loop areas. The prairie trail is a little bit bumpy but I've seen worse. The skate lanes are very firm but not icy. The tracks for classic look great as well, though we did not ski them. Hats off the the Lake K staff for some solid grooming with the limited equipment they have access to do their work.

Had a nice ski on all the trails. This was my first time skiing at this park. Everything was tracked and in good condition. There were a few leaves on the green trail, but nothing to slow me down. I used green special wax.

Full coverage with very firm snow. Tracks were full depth to 3/4. Skate deck was lumpy, especially in the woods. Pretty good considering what the groomers had to work with.
