Trail Reports

2018-2019 season
Reports 1 to 2 of 2    Month: Feb | Jan

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The trails at Rib Lake have ample snow. A great trail system in interesting terrain. Conditions were good to very good. The base is still a bit soft and not particularly fast. But this made for a relaxing and easy ski. The skating deck seemed particularly soft near the edges but was firmer nearer to the set tracks. The tracks themselves were firm but the poling was on the soft side. This is a shared trail with snowshoers and is also dog-friendly ("well behaved dogs welcome"). So the surface was scuffed and divoted slightly in areas, much more by the 'shoers than any dogs that had used it.

I went east from the Thums parking lot. I didn't see the track at the start but it was there and very firm. A little frost made for good kick with a klister hard wax combination. Out at the intersection with Bear Ave there was snow plowed into the trail and it appeared to not be groomed. I headed back the way I came then went out to intersection T and back on the end of the trail. When I got back to the parking lot I tried the section that goes to county D but it had a few thin sections so I turned back.
