Conditions are excellent--midwinter skiing in March! All trails are freshly groomed with deep tracks and firm skating deck. Only negative is occasional areas where tufts of pine needles from the recent blizzard are lying on the trail. Even the deer appreciate the grooming--they are walking on the trail instead of struggling in the 2 feet of snow in the woods. The debris and deer tracks were in the process of getting buried by more snow as we left.

We received in excess of 12" of new snow this week and have been packing and rolling most of the week. We finally were able to run the grooming sled Thursday. Classic tracks are set on all trails and we will continue to widen the skate lanes. The Boy Scouts are using the Lodge Saturday but the trails are available for use. The Lodge will be open 11:00 - 4:00 Sunday. Get out and enjoy the new snow!

Recently groomed and excellent conditions with one inch of fluffy snow falling while we were out. Striders are incorporating it into the track, but it is laying on the skating deck for the skaters and for snowplowing. The H trail on the ridge is does not have machine-set track yet, but that is not a problem. Any previous leafy or woody debris has been covered by the foot of snow that fell since the thaw last weekend.

Our trail system received more than 12" of snow this week. All skate lanes received several passes and classic tracks are set on all trails except the Ridge. We will continue to widen the skate lanes and set more classic tracks in preparation for the next snowfall. Conditions are good and will be getting even better. Enjoy it now that it has finally arrived!

+ 29 degrees instead of -29 just two days ago! The groomers valiantly worked during the polar vortex on the 6 inches that fell Monday to give some skiing today. Conditions are variable. The main trail (A) was excellent, but the E, D, and C trails were only fair to good. There were multiple dirty groomer gouge areas (mostly on the skate deck) where the snow wasn't quite deep enough. In addition there were quite a number of areas where oak leaves had accumulated in the tracks, and twigs were sticking up. But these could be avoided, so good skis were not in much danger. However, we did not venture up on the hilly ridge trails. There has been selective (but extensive) logging on the far end of A trail plus on F and E. The trails are intact, but some of the Northwoods feel is lost.

The School Forest Trails received about 3 - 4 inches of new snow this week. All trails were rolled but there's really not enough depth to ski on. Many rocks and sticks are still poking through. We need more snow to open the trail system.
