Notes

This trail is very hilly, rolling and scenic. It winds around five different lakes, through stands of maple, aspen and balsam. There are a couple fairly steep hills requiring intermediate skiing skills. A shelter with a fire ring is located on the trail.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Tracked entire except Mystery Lake by pass. Laid full track but snow is blocky crystal typical late winter snow. Conditions are fair as tracks will be fast in the morning and slow in the afternoon. Lost Canoe peninsula had a bare spot of about 10 feet other than that no bare spots present at this time Nebish Road is starting to thaw and is a bit muddy in a few spots. Nebish Road is firm after cold nights but by late afternoon could get soft similar to the classic tracks. There is some debris in the track but not unusual for this time of year.

Observation Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All ]
Conditions are poor. Trail is open but skiing not recommended. High 40's and rain made mush of base then someone ruined existing tracks by hiking and taking a dog, both of which are not allowed. There are now frozen punch through holes from dog and owner with frozen crust and soft underneath. The road in is in bad shape also. Unfortunately I can not recommend this trail at this time. It may be possible to rip up next week if weather allows. Check reports for Raven Madeline and McNaughton as those trails may be in better shape.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All loops groomed and tracked except the Mystery Lake by pass section. This section is too deep and drifted yet. Tracks on rest of trail are in good to very good condition. Good tracks and only one car in lot today so far. Road narrow on way in so use caution.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All loops groomed and tracked except the Mystery Lake by pass section. This section is too deep and drifted yet. Tracks on rest of trail are in very good condition. Would be excellent rating but pole plant a bit soft due to record large amount of snowfall in February. Wolf tracks present and marked territory in the snow where I stepped off trail for a photo last Thursday. Also saw an otter on the way in that took two unsuccessful attempts to climb snowbank on Nebish Road on the way in but went back and made it over the bank where it came from. Nebish Road is very narrow due to deep snow, so use caution and drive slow, on the way in or out of Escanaba Trail.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Drifting from last storm has caused difficulty grooming. The green loop around Pallette Lake is tracked and in very good shape. The yellow and red loop around Escanaba Lake is packed and leveled only. Clearing trail of drifts will continue and tracking of all loops as soon as possible is the goal. Drifts along Pallette and Lost Canoe lakes were formidable and after two days of clearing was able to get though with snowmobile and leveler.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
13 inches additional snow in last two storms ending Sunday morning. High winds Sunday (yesterday) brought limbs down and power outages in the area. Today will be addressing drifts, branches down and packing the trail surface. I will update report when tracks are ready. The trail is open for skiing but there will be no tracks until the next update.
