Notes

Mcnaughton Lake Trail follows old logging roads around three lakes and has very few steep hills. It is very scenic and an excellent trail for a beginner. A five and a half mile loop is groomed for skating. There is a shelter with a fire ring on the trail.

A few inches of snow since the trail was last groomed. All loops packed and flat groomed with the Yellowstone groomer. Not enough snow to set tracks, but just enough snow to cover the icy base on the yellow/green/blue classic loops. Red skate loop has significant bare patches after last week's warm up. Skiing the red loop is not advised.

Crust skiing has started, timing is everything! Started skiing 9:00 with temp of 33 degrees. Skating deck was icy and firm to start, but with 20 minutes was perfect to ski on. Good coverage on trail with lots of debris, skied till 11:00 and was getting pretty soft, temp was 44. Hey this trail survived the warm up and rain.

Warm temperatures and wind last Friday then followed by freezing temperatures over the weekend made for challenging trail conditions. Pulled the groomer around the skate loop and cleared larger debris this afternoon. The skate loop has a solid base, but a lot of debris on top. The classic loops were last groomed on February 25. Expect sticks and debris in the classic tracks. Overall, fair conditions and the start of spring skiing.

Beautiful morning, still almost a foot of snow. Very little debris except in piney areas, but not bad at all. Skate trail was recently groomed. The deck was pretty firm in the morning. Thanks groomers!

Freshly groomed skate loop. Conditions were good/very good this morning but the surface was softening fast on this sunny affecting half the loop due to absence of forest shade in many places. Tracks were beautiful and firm where techniques overlapped.
