Notes

Mcnaughton Lake Trail follows old logging roads around three lakes and has very few steep hills. It is very scenic and an excellent trail for a beginner. A five and a half mile loop is groomed for skating. There is a shelter with a fire ring on the trail.

Kudos to the groomers, Thank you, thank you, for grooming for us diehards who would like to ski for another month. As with spring skiing, timing is everything. Temp was 36 at 2:30 and the skate deck was perfect for skiing. For some reason the road which trail uses on back of lake is plowed making terrible skiing for about 400 yards. We skied backwards from shelter to road and turned around there which makes for about 11 km ski. The deck was fast, even, and fresh corduroy in most places. When we finished at 4:00 I would say it was too soft to ski.

All loops groomed and classic track reset. Conditions fair to good. Tracks are patchy and shallow, with fair amount of debris across all of trail. Warm conditions will deteriorate conditions further.

Firsthand: Classic

I skied the classic blue loop; tracks set well, snow is very dry and slow; as usual this year, some leaf litter in the tracks to stick to, especially under the hemlocks. Perfect place to ski.

All loops groomed and classic track re-set. Approximately 2" new snow was just enough to mix in and create mostly fully formed track with no debris - Some stretches may have patchy track.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Good skis ]
I skate skied the red loop and classic skied the blue loop. The skate deck appeared to have irregularities but it actually was quite even and smooth. Overall skate conditions were very good. The tracks on the classic trail were very good but a little slow. Overall classic conditions were very good too.
