Wonderful! After a couple days of reasonably decent skiing after our latest spring dump, it was finally enough thawing and freezing to result in pretty much perfect crust cruising this morning. Firm but not icy, smooth, and fast. Just three of us, with the whole place to ourselves, flying up the hills, flying down the hills, swooping through the trees -- great fun in the snow and sun. Just possibly, depending on how much it melts today and how cold it gets tonight, there'll be one more fine day of skiing tomorrow morning (until we're all crowding around the hamster loops at Wirth, Hyland, and Elm again in November).

What a great morning of crust skiing at the U of M golf course! There was plenty of transformed snow and many areas to navigate throughout the course. I started just before sunrise and was rewarded with starting a sunny day on skis. Get out early, it won't last for long.

Groomer was out while I skied some loops this morning. Skate deck is in great shape and the newly laid classic track looked deep.

Classic tracks marginal, thin and nearly nonexistent at times. Road created for tree work is a dangerous obstacle requiring ski removal to navigate. Love that this course is available for skiing, looking forward to better conditions soon. Hoping the more snow will trigger grooming at the golf course.

A beautiful day on the golf course. There was a little cut through groomed between the trails so you could mix and match your loops for variety. I classic skied. It was great, but as is to be expected the wind had blown the snow into the tracks. But the sun was shining, and it was a great day. Deck looked good for skating. A bit of drifting snow, but it was in good shape.

Skate deck was groomed this morning and everything looks great. Classic track appears to be in good condition. Kudos to the new guy Ryan for doing a ton of grooming the past few weeks! Enjoy the late bonus season of skiing.

Skied Wednesday afternoon - good skate surface below a couple inches of dry snow, a few areas had a bit more that had drifted on top. A little slow going at times but all skiable - thanks to the groomers for setting up the deck over the past few days.

UMN was in great shape. The track was in really good shape, and it's a nice flowing trail. I poked around on the skate deck but can't speak to it's overall firmness -- but seemed OK. I'm sure it will be great in a couple days. Great resources to have by campus.
