Trail Reports

2019-2020 season

Afternoon
Observation
[ Trails: Closed ]
I don't recommend skiing the U of M golf course today: it was hard packed with many patches of solid ice. I ran the course and even running was often treacherous. At least I was confident that I wasn't doing the course any damage by running on it.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
We skied on skate skis and found quite a few icy spots especially underneath trees where the snow had melted and refreezed. Hopefully we get more snow soon.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied the outer loop. There are a few puddles that are avoidable but as of the afternoon there are no bare spots. Snow wasn't as slow as I though it'd be in the afternoon sun.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Great conditions this morning for skate skiing between 9 and 10 AM. Very few people. Snow was neither icy nor slushy. As of 10 AM Saturday the classic track looked washed out for most of the trail.

Skied late-ish. No tracks, pretty good skate deck! Lots of corduroy on the inside loop.

Observation

I stopped by, saw that there were no tracks set, and decided to go to Como instead. Skate deck looked good--what I could see from the parking lot.

Lots of snow drift with strong winds. So naturally quite challenging up hill. No classic tracks yet either. Happy Skiiing!

Well I definitely wrote my eulogy to winter a little too early. YAY snow. The skate deck was rolled, and I found a little bit of corduroy. As of 6 PM no classic tracks—that area has been smoothed over, so perhaps they plan to set new ones. Great skiing conditions.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Track firm and fast. Leaves in track make it difficult to establish/maintain a rhythm.
Cool clear day, sun out, not many people, parking lot dry, not much wind, because of fast track didn't feel like much of a workout.

Looking good out here. Classic track is reset and the skate deck cleared from the wind. Come and get some nice skiing today.
