Observation
[ Trails: Closed ]
Skiing season has finally come to a close at Copper Falls. Last night's rain took out quite a bit of snow on the trails and the rivers are roaring. Thank you to Friends of Copper Falls volunteers, the Bayfield Nordic club, and park staff for another fantastic season of skiing in the Penokee Hills. Opportunities to maintain and improve trails will occur this summer so if you're interested in helping out, please reach out to the FOCF or the park to find out how you can become involved. Happy Trails!

Secondhand
[ Trails Open: Most ]
The park staff put all grooming equipment back into storage to get started on spring prep but the trails are still open for spring skiing with a 1-2ft base throughout most of the park. Conditions are spring-crust skiing if you hit it at the right time. Skier preferences will be parts of the Meadow, Pipeline East and Pipeline West halves. The short section of Pipeline West where it crosses the Red Granite Loop is said to be rough due to hikers on the Red Granite loop; also the section along the beach is rough due to hikers checking out the lake.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Groomed up Pipeline and Meadow Loops this morning; this will likely be the last grooming of the season. Meadow is good to excellent. Pipeline East is good to excellent. Pipeline West is fair to good, many spots with avoidable small sticks from last week's ice storm. Track was set last night on Vahtera but turned out Fair. Be sure to ski in the next day or two, this will likely be the best conditions until next year.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
We were able to groom some of the trails today, specifically Pipeline and Meadow loops. Conditions are Good to Excellent. FOCF rolled most trails the last two days. Pipeline skate deck was fully groomed at noon and fully tracked on Pipeline by 3pm. The Meadow is beginning to glaze from the spring conditions. Combined with the already firm deck; tracks are becoming harder to set. This should be the last week for excellent conditions, have a good ski!

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Skied the Meadow and Pipeline loops yesterday after work. They were freshly groomed and a bit soft due to the 20" of new snow being groomed in. Skied the Meadow this morning before work and it's much firmer now. Pics are from Monday afternoon.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
After nearly 2 feet of new snow this week, Red Granite, Meadow and Pipeline trails have been packed - thanks to the volunteer groomers. The trails have not been rolled or tracked. Conditions for classic ski were good and a beautiful day in the park. Takesson and Vahterra still need some work (need packing, rolling and track). Enjoy the hemlocks!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Today was tough for grooming. We're short on staff right now and had one volunteer from FOCF. We tried to schedule grooming to fit within the forecasted snow. FOCF groomed up everything nicely but the snow didn't arrive until near the end. As a result Vahtera (classic) is excellent and Pipeline and Meadow are excellent but with only one big ginzu pass done on the 2nd round grooming. The classic track was great but the combed skate deck might seem narrow in places, there's 1-2" powder remaining on the far left side of the skate deck that wasn't touched. Open areas might have some drifting overnight. Grooming Plans: Next classic grooming will occur Monday; it was too windy along Takesson to groom today. Next combi-trail grooming will be either Monday or Tuesday.

Classic trail was fast! Beautiful day on the trails - Meadow, Pipeline, Vahterra, Takesson all in great shape. Thanks CFSP staff and Volunteers. Check out the pic of the glowing skier as the sun was setting! Very serene.

Trails remain excellent after grooming yesterday with solid classic tracks. The corduroy was so pristine that many animal activities were clearly observed from their tracks, including what I think were from wolves. Even came across a kill--likely a rabbit (only some fur left). Pipeline looked great, but Red Granite Falls was rough and bumpy from walkers and snowshoers (it is a designated snowshoe trail also). No debris except a little in the hemlock areas. Would have preferred if groomer raised the track setter on more of the significant downhills on the one way classic trails to help control my speed.
