Trail Reports

2021-2022 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 11    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec
Saturday, February 26, 2022
Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I would say good conditions. Some walker damage in the tracks on the loops near the main parking lot and the Lone Rock connector. Camper cabin loop and the loop north of the lake were in better shape. Tracks were shallow and windblown in spots. Skied Cleary yesterday and the trails there were in better shape with more recent grooming. But I'm not complaining, beautiful day out there.

Skied at night, beautiful course. Skied around the lakes and the prairie. Didn't ski towards the camper cabins because of a previous trail report saying it was in bad condition.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Fresh coating of new snow this morning on existing double tracks. New snow helped refresh the tracks and cover up debris. Very enjoyable ski at Whitetail Woods.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Tracks more slick today compared to yesterday. Uphill tracks to camper cabins through pine trees is in poor condition. I would suggest avoiding that loop. More debris in tracks today from high winds compared to yesterday. Recommend bringing a scraper to remove tree debris or wild animal deposits from your kick zone.

Skied the 11KM of classic only trails at Whitetail Woods. Dusting of new snow this morning, some windblown snow, and a couple snow drifts across trail from adjacent fields. Snow and tracks are generally good, except thin under pine tree sections. I found very little leafy or woody debris in the majority of tracks, unlike Lebanon Hills where I skied two days ago.

Pleasant day xc skiing at Whitetail Woods. Skied most of the 11KM of classic tracks. For the most part, good ski conditions. Some prairie grass peeking through on occasion. Some icy spots by Camper Cabins area, careful on first part of downhill coming out of that area. Some wind blown snow in tracks in a couple open areas. Quite a few folks out enjoying the trails.

Observation
[ Trails Open: All ]
My wife and some friends skied the trails. I am recovering from an injury and had to hike. Trails were being groomed (packed and tracked) while we were there. Looked to be in excellent condition. I had ski envy, but the hiking was fine, beautiful afternoon.

I thought the trails were great! Fresh snow on top of the melted then frozen tracks that are in great condition. No leaves or debris. Skied lower and east loops off lower parking lot. Beautiful quiet snow. Lots of animal tracks to observe. I had a good ski out there!

We only skied the trails connecting to the Lone Rock Trail, that is the loop around the prairie down the hill to the south of the parking lot, then the loop around the prairie at the top of the hill to the east of the parking lot. Both were in excellent condition.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Trails were packed this morning after snowfall. Minimal base, hopefully new snow will add to it. No tracks set. Lone Rock Trail is planned to be packed tomorrow.
