Trail Reports

2018-2019 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 13    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Thursday, March 7, 2019
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed Wednesday night. Skate deck firm. Classic tracks shallow in places but solid. It's getting unnecessary to report about snow depth since the base is now approaching the extent normally found at downhill areas!

Skiers' Dilemma. Skate or classic. Skate deck is firm and classic tracks near perfect. I chose classic and hope to go back to skate in afternoon. Trail was rolled and packed Friday night.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Fully groomed and classic tracks set. Deep base safe for your best skis. Because the wind on Sunday left cement-like drifts in places, some parts of the trail are lumpy and classic tracks are shallow in certain sections.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
An inch of fresh powder over newly groomed trail. Classic track had been set. Full coverage, so no worry about using good skis. Skate deck was soft.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Fully groomed, drifts leveled, packed powder, classic tracks set and skate lane ready (can't wait to ski it!). First groom in 3 weeks due to mechanical issues.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Very fun skiing today. I don't think it's been groomed since last snow, but someone else has been packing the tracks. No notable debris; there was lots of powder, and was lightly glazed in some areas.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skated on pulverized crust over solid base. Lumpy in places especially where people have been walking. Only a few spots with grass or dirt poking through, but 'B' skis because of the debris from the high winds all over the trail - seeds, bark, twigs. Classic tracks glazed.

Trail survived the meltdown. Skate deck was combed early this morning and left a nice 1/2 inch of powder on top. Skated with best skis. Classic tracks looked only slightly glazed.

A lovely little trail system, the grooming was very good. Nice wide trail for both skate and classic. The classic tracks were not real deep, but that wasn't an issue. A few bits of grass poking through, but we had no problems with our good skiis. It was really nice to ski on real snow. It was really beautiful, and surprisingly protected from the wind, right along the Sauk River. To find the access, go around to the back of the high school from the south, drive in as far as you can go, and you will find the trail.
