Spectacular peace, quiet, solitude and beauty at Gooseberry today! The trails are unfroomed so we followed another skiers tracks partway and broke trail the rest of the way. There is no snow under the highway bridge but everything else is covered with heavy wet snow. We freed many branches burdened with snow that were partially blocking the trail and those broken (see photo) we left. It was an amazing day as we skied alongside the gurgling Gooseberry River!

Skated the skate loop on the west side of the river. Great conditions considering the freeze thaw cycle. Once you get north of hwy 61 conditions improve greatly from what you see near the visitors center. Full coverage, a few low snow areas under cedars and spruce trees. Lots of wolf tracks and scat to maneuver around. Recently groomed, classic track looked good, variable conditions of course. Great trail system.

Checking out the falls, considering skiing. I’m glad I went to Korkki. The foot traffic and melting that I saw didn’t look encouraging.

The trails north of 61 are in awesome shape - great deep / firm classic tracks. Debris in places from wind but no big deal. The grooming at Gooseberry has been really good - beautiful trails!

Enjoyed a great day of skiing at Gooseberry today. The trails were recently groomed and are in excellent shape. Thank you groomers!

Skied the north west loop at 10:00 am. It had not been groomed and we were the first ones on the trail. Faint classic tracks under 3 inches of new snow. It was spectacular with no rocks. Many animal tracks including wolf tracks on much of the trail. Nothing better than new snow and bright sun.

Great conditions at Gooseberry. Classic skied to outer loop of the northeast trails before the groomer came through. 2-3 inches of new, fluffy snow over a hard packed, crusty base. Classic tracks were (barely) visible, so we broke trail using the tracks. Slow, but good coverage and no ice. About 3/4 of the way around the loop we met the groomer. Conditions after that were good and faster, but I almost preferred the ungroomed snow. A bit thin near the visitor's center (and I suppose on the campground loop), trails on the north side of 61 were in much better shape.

The “upper” blue and black trails were groomed and are very good. The deck was well-groomed with nice double tracks. Things were a bit soft still yesterday afterwards but could have firmed up overnight. We’re planning on skiing here again Sunday. Kudos to the trail crew!

Observation Secondhand
Snowshoeing around the campground area today and noticed the lower loop is in terrible shape. Lots of ice and spots where the classic tracks completely disappeared. Saw a few skiers and one of them said the trail was complete ice. Needs some new snow.

Started at the visitor center, went under 61, skied the skate loop. Overall, the skate deck had good coverage with a few thin spots in places. It looked like things had been recently groomed. Lots of foot traffic near the visitor center and on the portion shared with the SHT. It did look like the hikers were avoiding the classic tracks which is nice. The grooming on the skate deck was a bit uneven between the 1st and 2nd passes, but otherwise a great ski.
