Went to Silvermine since Tower Ridge had a high school ski race going on today. Trails were in somewhat rough shape, given the temps and the Silvermine invitational that happened last weekend. Several small bare spots and thin areas, lots of debris poking through, and a good rut through some parts of the trails, as well as lots of footprints. No classic tracks set. There were some sections on the field that held up pretty well, and others not so much. Hills we're ok but thin, and at the top it was decently covered. All still pretty packed and tracked. I'd say if you're a novice, don't do the big hills; due to such a thin base and somewhat unpredictable trail, falling would be riskier and more painful. I think it was in decent enough condition overall to go in B skis, but if you're a little more particular, go in rock skis. Snow was soft for most of it, but on the far side it felt like there was more base, and it was shaded so held up better and wasn't terrible to ski on.

Skied the man-made groomed loop after the ski race this morning. Skate deck was smooth and covered. I think you could have used good skis, but with the sandpaper snow, I went with B skis. Still a fairly fast ski, given the conditions. No bumps, it was groomed well, so shout out to the groomers for the work they did!

First ski of the season for me here. Snow was soft and slow. Please keep in mind that the grooming is done by volunteers and we're still learning and getting used to new equipment and new terrain to groom on. Trail was covered well, minor bare spots on the field. Some sticks/other debris sticking out through the ground on the lower trails, and a few sticks/ debris down on the trails up top the hills, although I picked up as much as I could while I was out. Some of the trail rolls a bit; the snow is soft and we need more of it to smooth it out/pack it down. Still, it was a great day and I couldn't stop grinning-there's more trail (about 2.5km) that was groomed, and I was out on skis! Ski pass is needed, you can purchase online. There will be a QR code out there on the bulletin board later this week so purchasing can happen on site too.
