Trail Reports

2018-2019 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 23    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Monday, March 18, 2019
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Came out expecting bad but got good instead. Lake, Sky and Sugar Bush were very skiable. Thin layer of wet snow on a hard base. 3 or 4 wet spots but they were short. Where the trail crosses the bike trail is getting thin and you will probably have to take your skis off to cross soon. Enjoy!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
With low expectations and rock skis, you will be pleasantly surprised. Coverage was 90% fair/good, 9% poor and 1% caution. Watch the low areas for ice. Snow may hang on for a few more days but getting quite thin in the sunny areas.

Lake trail is still skiable. However in the east side it's so soft that the poles sink down about a foot. In the woods is nice but getting dirty. Classic is gone.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Today was one of those "If I don't ski I will hate myself" kind of days. Carver Park is always serene and peaceful, today no exception with brilliant sunshine, not a cloud in the sky and a SW breeze at 6MPH, high of 30F. Classic skied King (ungroomed), Grimm, Lake, sky loops on the Crown classics with Fast Wax Tan/Salmon. Not great tracks, but not bad, and as the day progressed the tracks became a little icy from the high water content of the last snow with steeper climbs out of the track on the deck. Heard and saw My first cardinals of the season!

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Sure was windy. We stayed in the woods on the Sky and Sugar Bush trail and had no trouble with the wind. Two inches of new snow that was not groomed. I would stay away from the King and Lake and Grimm trail today. Saw a half dozen other skiers who were undeterred by the TV weather personalities who tend to bad mouth snow and cold during the winter.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails were in excellent condition. They were freshly groomed but Grimm in particular was soft. Sugar Bush was firmer as was King until you started the climb away from Lundsten Lake. I used Fastwax Salmon LF buffed with fluoro paste. It/I was disappointingly slow.

As of 10am Sky Lake Sugar Bush and Nature are groomed for skate only. Grimm and King rolled but messy. Crew is working as I write so will probably be done this afternoon.

Lake Sky and Sugar Bush have classic set. Everything else is rolled but not groomed. Great job with all the snow we had. Should be good tomorrow.
