2018-2019 season

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Trails remain ungroomed at Elm Creek. Skate deck was icy and rutted this morning. Trails are continuing to show more and more dirt. I think today was the last ski of the season for me. Sad it's over, but thankful we were able to ski into April yet again!

Fini for me. Not groomed today (I assume done grooming) and it was very dirty snow with some warm slow snow mixed in as well as a few short icy stretches. The very dirty snow caused grip (mainly) and slip. Didn't have a 2X4 with a rag soaked in some kind of solvent to clean my skis (a la the World Championships at Thunder Bay before that practice was banned). All in all, it was a pretty good season and you could've skied some 137 days in a row if you went out during the very cold, very snowy and sometimes marginal days.

Observation
[ Trails Open: Partial ]
I was at Elm Creek Park from 6 to 6:15 PM. There was dirt on the snow and I did not see anyone on the trail, so I did not ski for fear of damaging my skis.

Tracks were groomed today and were in good shape. A treat to be skiing in April. Thanks to Elm Creek.

Thanks to the groomers and management for continuing to groom Elm. Skate lane was skiing real nice again this morning. A lot of smiling skiers out. Looks like it will be below freezing two more nights so maybe a few more days of local skiing left...

First a disclaimer - This is not an April Fools joke. It's true - It's still possible to ski at Elm Creek this morning. The skate lane has been regroomed and is firm under a crusty to soft surface. The by-pass hill has not been regroomed and it's a slushy, rutted mess with no classic track. The classic track on the rest of the Valley Trail was not regroomed. Yesterday's classic track has a thin coating of last night's light snow clinging stubbornly to the gray icy base underneath. Striding was actually better on the un-tracked skate surface. For the die-hard spring skier, it's still tolerable. For me, I think it's over for the season. No complaints though - A season that lasts until April is something to be grateful for.

I keep thinking I'm done for the season, but a cooler day comes along, and I'm back out there! Let's just say I had a lot of solitude out at Elm this afternoon at 2:00. The classic tracks had transformed, but were still enjoyable with a decent kick and glide with the nowax skis. The skate deck was well used and soft. The whole 2.5 loop was open and still had good coverage. Is this the last day of grooming at Elm -- we'll have to wait and see. Thanks to the Elm Creek groomers for keeping the season alive!

Tracks were even better today than Friday or Saturday. Deep, firm, and less dirty - the groomers must have found a fresh layer of snow. Thanks! Moderate temps, no wind, sunshine - great morning to ski.

Another good day in the tracks. Not only were they freshly groomed but a bonus 2nd track was added that went more than halfway around the snowmaking loop. Thanks again to the groomers!

Thanks to the Elm Creek groomers for grooming the classic track today! Way better than Tuesday when the track was solid ice. Now to get a few skaters to follow rule 1 - don't go on the classic tracks unless you're doublepoling. Problem was worse today with skaters going in reverse direction and skiing over the downhill tracks as they went uphill on them.
